“Do you see anything?”
In the darkness, the weary couple trekked atop the autumn leaves that crunched underfoot. Owls hooted and twigs snapped with a satisfying crack, as they made their way deeper into the Malfoys’ land in search of bygone relics.
“Not since sunset, no.”
“Don’t be obvious, Draco,” Hermione huffed as her foot caught against a rock making her stumble forward to avoid colliding with a tree.
His wife would wake the whole bloody forest. “Be careful,” Draco chided.
“Then cast a Lumos.”
“Do you want my parents to win?” Draco responded, completely exasperated.
“No.” After a pause, “I don’t see why the wager couldn’t allot for magic. You’re a Slytherin for Godric’s sake. What happened to ‘the Most Noble and Ancient House of Black’ or ‘my magic can’t be tamed?’” she bickered quietly.
Draco turned back to his wife, “You’ve lost your marbles. I’ve never said anything of the sort.”
Unperturbed, Hermione continued her rant. “Nifflers could have easily retrieved the family jewels…”
He chuckled at her show of tact. Gryffindorks. “Have you got one of those rash-flash lights objects?”
“Oh right, bother.” Reaching into her pocket, Hermione removed her keychain complete with a miniature wand, three brass keys, two silver ones, a trinket from her honeymoon, and a pig flashlight.
Supplies at the ready, the pair marched forward as the blue LED light illuminated the path. Straight ahead and to the left five paces, something glittered in the ambient light.
Racing towards it, Draco smiled triumphantly as he picked up the misplaced heirloom.
They had won!
Doing a victory jig, Hermione sung, “We get to go trick-or-treating! Your parents have to watch our kids!”
