Challenge: #5. Pearl Harbor. Prompt: 7. "You know, the only thing that scares me is that you might love him more than you love me."
"You know..." Draco trailed off with a sigh as he saw her, sitting on the floor of the bedroom she'd only officially occupied with him for seven weeks now. “The only thing that scares me is that you might love him more than you love me."
Hermione looked up frowning. “What are you talking about?" Her hand continued to rub at Crookshanks' orange fur, much to the satisfaction of the cat, if his purrs were any indication.
Draco came closer. There was a hitch in the purrs as the feline opened his eyes and glared up at the man who'd taken his Hermione away and moved them into a large house so different from the flat they'd been living in (it was a nice house though, much like Hogwarts, and it certainly had good hunting spots) and locked him out of his Hermione's bedroom at night, following an accident involving his claws and Draco's leg.
Crookshanks did not like Draco very much at all. In the beginning, Hermione had thought it was because the kneazle could sense something about Draco and his intentions that she couldn't and it'd made her weary of letting him into her life. Luckily for Draco, it'd not taken her too long to realise that while Crookshanks had known of Draco's true intentions long before she had, he'd not liked the blond because, unlike with Harry and Ron, Crookshanks saw Draco as a true rival for Hermione's heart.
“You see how he's glaring at me?" Draco asked, stopping in his track. It was ridiculous. He felt on edge in his own home, always looking behind him and never stepping into a room without making sure he knew if, and where, Crookshanks was hiding at.
Whenever he told Hermione of Crookshanks behaviour, she brushed it off, telling him the kneazle just wanted to play with him, and that that was why he kept jumping out and scaring Draco, claws out. The only ones who sympathised with him were Harry and Ron, a first since he and Hermione began dating.
She was horribly devoted to the little orange beast and though Draco knew she loved him - she wouldn't have agreed to marry him, much less gone through with it otherwise - they'd had enough fights over the fluff ball for Draco to know that when it came to him or Crookshanks, he would always lose.
“It's just your over active imagination again, love," Hermione said, completely oblivious.
Crookshanks glared, Hermione petted and Draco backed slowly out of the room.
