Written for the "I Want the Fairy Tale" Valentine's Challenge at
dramionedrabble-Day 04 Moulin Rouge. I used the following quotes:
1. Thank you for curing me of my ridiculous obsession with love.
7. As long as we have each other. We have each other.
Draco was standing in front of the door, his fist raised, feeling utterly ridiculous. He knew he should just knock already and get it over with, but he really didn't want to.
However, he was running out of options. One week ago, he had had a major fight with his girlfriend, which had culminated in Hermione breaking up with him, screaming, "Thank you for curing me of my ridiculous obsession with love," on her way out . At first Draco had thought that she had just overreacted as usual, after all the woman was more than easily upset, This hadn't been their first fight, and they usually made-up in due time.
This time seemed to be different though. Hermione hadn't returned to Draco's flat since walking out seven days ago. In fact, Draco hadn't heard from her at all. When he tried to catch her at the Ministry, he had found out that she had called in sick. But a visit to her flat had shown that she hadn't been home in several days.
At that point Draco had started to worry that their most recent fight might have been more serious than he had assumed.
In his opinion, the fight had been completely unnecessary though. They had early on in their relationship agreed to date in secret. An arrangement that suited Draco just fine. He could only imagine what his family would say were they to find out he was in a relationship with a witch that in their eyes was highly unsuitable for a Malfoy. Hermione might be the best friend of Harry Potter and was, therefore, held in high esteem in certain circles of the wizarding world, but for Draco's family there were only two things that mattered: magical parentage and family fortune. Hermione had neither.
While Draco knew that his parents wouldn't disown him if they found out about him and Hermione, there was no other heir available after all, he was certain that the inevitable discussions about his choice in girlfriends would be more than painful. Keeping his relationship quiet was the more comfortable course of action.
Hermione, however, seemed to be of the opinion that as long as they had each other, they had each other and nothing else would matter. Draco had countered that it then wouldn't mater that their relationship was secret, at which point Hermione had chosen to break up with him. Personally, Draco thought that running out of an argument equalled admitting defeat. But what use was it if he had technically won the argument when Hermione refused to see him?
Of course, going to the Potters, the most likely place for Hermione to be hiding, and demanding to see her would pretty much mean admitting to being in a relationship with the crazy witch. Draco was aware of that. But after one week without her, he had been forced to re-evaluate his position concerning the secrecy of their relationship. Damn it all, but he missed his oversensitive and irrational girlfriend.
If the choices were either to be with Hermione in public or not to be with her at all, than he'd happily shout from the rooftops that they were together. Well, not happily. He still thought that keeping their relationship secret would be much easier. But he knew Hermione could be as stubborn as a mule and wouldn't budge on this.
Resolving that if he had to openly date Hermione, the first date he'd drag her to would be a Quidditch game-whether she liked it or not-Draco finally knocked at the door to Harry and Ginny Potter's house.
Hermione opened the door. "Took you long enough," she said, smiling, before falling into his arms.
