“I didn’t know professors were allowed to take sabbaticals.”

“Well, they are. The headmaster even gave me permission to suggest someone to take my place while I’m gone. You were the first person that came to mind.”

“I don’t mean to sound ungrateful for this opportunity, but why?” Hermione inquired.

“You’re extremely talented in almost everything you try. Besides I heard you were looking for a change of scenery job wise.”

“You are well informed. Do you mind telling me who you heard this from?”

Theodore Nott didn’t reply to this comment instead he led Hermione into his office and proceeded to show her where everything was kept. He wanted to acquaint her with everything so that it would be easier to navigate. He was extremely relieved when she was hired temporarily for the position. He had been concerned that she would be overqualified for the job.

“Oh, one last thing I wanted to let you know before I go. Someone from the Most Extraordinary Society of Potioneers is stopping by sometime tomorrow to pick up some potions. I left them on the desk. I’m sure you won’t mind handing them over when they stop by.”

“Not at all.”

“Perfect,” he replied.

The next day was Hermione’s first day on the job. The day started out stressful as she taught first year students how to make a boil cure potion. She spent the entire class period making sure nobody melted the bottom of their cauldrons. By the time she returned to her office she had successfully taught half of her fifth year potions class how to make the Draught of Peace. I sure could use some of that potion right about now, she thought to herself. She looked through Theodore’s personal stash and found a bottled labeled Draught of Peace. She gulped it down quickly and sighed contently as she felt the potion begin to take effect. She barely noticed the molten gold color of the potion which suggested it wasn’t the correct potion. She was now too confident to even care. Suddenly there was a knock on her office door.

“Come in.”

Now she was in the presence of Draco Malfoy. He eyed Hermione suspiciously and looked around for Theodore. When he noticed that his friend wasn’t anywhere to be found he said, “Where’s Theodore? What did you do to him?”

“I didn’t do anything to him. He’s on sabbatical. What are you doing here?”

“I’m here to pick up some potions.”

Hermione pointed towards the potion bottles on her desk. Draco gathered them and stashed them away in his robe pockets. He turned to leave, but Hermione yelled, “Wait!”

He stopped and turned to face her. “What is it? I don’t have time to…”

Hermione’s lips crashed onto his and when they parted they were both breathless. Draco’s eyes were wide and Hermione’s face was flushed. “I’m sorry. I don’t know why I did that,” was her rushed reply.

“I thought we agreed that the kiss we shared at that Ministry party would never be repeated.”

“I thought so too.”

“Explain this then,” he replied as he motioned between the two of them.

“Do you think I planned this? I didn’t plan this. I didn’t even know you were going to come here today. Why do you think I accepted this job? I was trying to get away from you long enough to straighten out my feelings about what happened between us.”

“Nothing happened between us, at least not yet. How about we have dinner tonight?”

Hermione couldn’t believe what she was hearing, but she couldn’t refuse. Once they agreed on a place and time to meet Draco left and returned to his job. Blaise noticed his prompt return and asked him, “So how did it go? Did Theodore give you the potions?”

“Actually Granger gave me the potions. It turns out Theodore’s on sabbatical.”

“Oh really? How did that turn out? Did she try to hex you?”

“No, she was actually quite civil. I even asked her out to dinner tonight. I don’t really know what compelled me to; it just felt right.”

“Interesting,” Blaise said with a nod. He excused himself, claiming he had to use the restroom. Instead he found the nearest fireplace and floo’ed Theodore. “Your plan worked. They’re going out to dinner tonight.”

“Brilliant! I knew Hermione wouldn’t be able to resist a little Draught of Peace. Of course I made sure I switched the labels of that draught with Felix Felicis. I had to make sure Draco stood a chance.”

“You’re an evil genius.”

“No, I just know Granger and Malfoy too well. That’s all,” was Theodore’s smug reply.
