Over the past few hours we've had a lot of requests for membership, of which most are by 'people' who have only just created a journal, have no entries, no interests, no friends, and are members of no communities... Which seems a bit fishy to me ( Read more... )

LOL I'm not a bot. I promise. I just never knew the link to this comm before. But I've been around the Dramione world [as a reviewer] for awhile now. :-)

Thanks for commenting! I've got your membership request, but I need you to have an age statement on your User Info before I can approve it. (It's just so that we can try to prevent underage readers accessing mature material). Can you change your profile to show your full date of birth (or just add a statement to your bio that says "I am over 18"), and then reply to this comment so I can check, and I'll approve you. (And then you can read!)

Oh, I wrote on my blog about this fic exchange (promoting it), and encouraged people to join up so they could participate in future and read the entries already put up. Perhaps that's driving some of the traffic?

That could explain it!

I went to a Halloween party and, when I came back, there were about 8 applications (most from new LJ accounts, one from someone whose username didn't appear to be an LJ username), and there have been more since.

Even during the exchange, the most we get is two a day, so I was shocked!

I will go back and approve them.

[I'm not usually so neurotic about security but with this comm I feel like I'm taking care of someone else's creation.]

ETA Do you know anyone who might have used the name 'Lindsay Faye'? I can't approve her because LJ can't find her, so I can't check her age. If you know her, could you let her know? :-)

Hi! I've got your membership request, but I need you to have an age statement on your User Info page -- either a full Date of Birth, including year, or something like, "I am over 18." (It's so we can try to ensure that none of our readers is underage). If you still want to join, could you edit your profile and reply to this message so that I can check, and then I'll approve you :-)

Hi! I'd love to join, but I'm a little wary about posting my year of birth online. Would it be okay to say "I am over 18" on my profile?
