Prompt chosen: "Enjoy the little things in life, for one day you may look back and realize they were the big things." -- Antonio Smi

He is no longer himself, but rather, a sum of his parts.
No longer a scary, grey eyed, scowling snake, but an assembly
of hair, hands, eyelashes, and lips,
pads of fingertips.

It is candy love, and she enjoys every little crystal of sugar.
Cream sheets, vanilla frosting hair spread over them.
Warm dough rolling over and over, kissing and tasting like the chocolate by the bedside table,
and the saltiness of skin as it trails under her lips.

She could devour every inch of this,
every finger, every hair,
every smell and every glare.
Every small bit of him.

Granger was all angles and stiff joints when she sat down beside him, eyes straight ahead as she stared into the fireplace. He would never claim unending thanks for the gesture, but she was warmer than the flames in front of them and all he wanted was...

He pressed closer, enough to feel her burn him through the dual layers of their jumpers.

Somewhere behind them, he heard Weasley mutter traitor before his feet pounded up the stairs.

Draco questioned whether he’d meant the comment for her or him, but then Granger was pressing back and he wondered no more.

Prompt chosen: "What a profound significance small things assume when the woman we love conceals them from us." -- Marcel Proust

A fire crackled on the hearth. Music played softly in the background.

His wife was absorbed entirely in the bundle of knitted yarn that rested in her lap.

“Planning on freeing our house-elves?” Draco enquired as he slipped inside their cosy parlour.

“No,” Hermione replied absently, her half-smile indulgent.

The burgundy booties and cap she held up were far too wee for a house-elf's head or feet.

Draco froze mid-step.

Was he ready for this? Was she?

“Relax, honey.” Her eyes danced with mischief. “These are for Harry and Ginny.”

“Good thing,” Draco drawled. “Because our babies should wear green.”

"What are you not telling me, Granger?"

She knows Draco is angry by the use of her old last name.

"I'm not sure I understand what you mean. Perhaps you should elaborate."

"You've been moody and secretive. You've changed your diet. You sleep all the time. You look with disdain at all the clothing shops which you used to enjoy, and now I find out you've been seeing some bloke with greying temples. Tell me the truth!"

"I'm pregnant. The man's a competent, yet discreet MediWizard."

Shock. Joy. Twirling. The only moment happier is the day their child is born.

The hummingbird’s wings beat fast, hard, the humming filling the air.

Draco watches the diminutive bird as it goes from flower to flower, steadily drinking in the sweet, sweet nectar.

It is far more difficult, though, for him to attain the sweet love of a woman.

He is trying, so hard, oh! so hard, to convince her that he’s changed.

He’s become a man. One that is mature, less arrogant, caring; yet she will not yield.

“You’re not ready yet,” she says.

“Then when?” he asks.

Her reply?

“Just as the birds know to migrate in the winter, you’ll know.”

He tried. A failed attempt to save her. But he tried. A sweet denial of her face. She knew he knew it well.

And again. He tried. This time success. Wand raised, killing curse on the lips of his friend. Her life cast in the balance.

But he saved her.

And they saved him. Hermione and her friends.

A small act. A big one, all the same.

Now she’s saving him. Forgiving eyes. Soft touches. Whispered words. He yearns for them. And she’s the provider.

They save each other.

It’s a secret, their very own. She thinks they always will.

Prompt chosen: "There are very few human beings who receive the truth, complete and staggering, by instant illumination. Most of them acquire it fragment by fragment, on a small scale, by successive developments, cellularly, like a laborious mosaic." -- Anais Nin

Demoralised. Terrified. Feeling pulled in five directions at once.

Drawing and quartering, wasn’t that what they called this particular brand of torture?

Torture was what seventh year, especially those final days of the war, had been. There was no time to process the larger significance of his failure to kill Dumbledore before the war erupted in earnest. Then the true horrors began.

Chaos springing from utter madness.

And now he’d returned, not entirely sure why.

Oddly comforting, though, sitting in the shadowy library again, with its dusty, old-parchment smell. She was there too, across the room. He found himself glad.

Prompt chosen: "We can do no great things; only small things with great love." - Mother Theresa

Draco watched her sleep, displeased at the sight before him. Her hair was more disastrous than it always was, strewn wildly around her. Curls were plastered to her face by sweat and her brown brows were knotted above lids that were shut too tight.

Hermione groaned, deepening Draco's frown. He brushed the loose tendrils away and rubbed her temple; he dried her perspiration with a wet towel and traced kisses along her jaw line to soothe her.

Holding her hand as she slept, he knew he could not rid her of her bad dreams but, still, he hoped he did.

Prompt chosen: "We can do no great things; only small things with great love.” -- Mother Theresa

“How’s spew doing, love?”

She didn’t bother to correct him.

“Fine.”

“Grouchy, much?”

“You’re not making a donation.”

“True enough.”

She glared at him. “Why are rich people so stingy?”

He shrugged. “How do you think we got rich?” A pause. “It’s your money too. Just take it.”

She shook her head. “Donations only.”

He sighed. “Why do this when you can do so much more?”

She stared at him resolutely. “Because I love what I do.”

Another pause. Then, he handed her a check.

She gaped at the amount. “Why?”

“Because it’s a small thing for someone I love.”
