This is my missing scene from yesterday's show...
Things Left Unsaid
Spinelli held Maxie close as she leaned her head on his shoulder in the quiet elevator. He had finally talked her into going home and taking a nap, assuring her that Mac or Anna would call her if anything changed.
“I know you must be tired of me leaning on you,” she mumbled against his chest.
“Not at all. The Jackal is most pleased that you feel like you can lean on me during the trials and tribulations that life throws at us,” he replied, gently rubbing her back. “I’ll always be there for you,” he added.
Maxie leaned back to look in his gentle, caring eyes and smiled. “And I you,” she replied as the elevator door opened to Jason’s floor.
He smiled as he led them into the penthouse. He sat his messenger bag down on the table. “I’ll be up in a moment,” he informed her, ushering her towards the stairs. He walked into the kitchen to grab an orange soda.
“Spinelli,” Maxie screamed from their room.
He sat his beverage down on the table and raced up the stairs. “What’s wrong?” he asked breathlessly as he stepped into the room.
“This,” she replied, waving her arms over the bed. Maxie rolled her eyes at the confused look on his face. “Your suit, Spinelli.”
“What about it? I thought I told you that I liked it.”
“If you liked it, then why would you leave a designer suit lying around? Federico went to a lot of trouble to ship this to me over night, so it would get here in time for the wedding. It was my thank you gift to you, for helping me with the wedding and all,” she rambled, holding the suit jacket in her hands.
Spinelli walked over to her and gently took the suit from her hands. “The Jackal was in a hurry to get the hospital. I apologize for not taking better care of it.” He moved toward the closet to hang the suit up.
Maxie sat down on the bed feeling terribly embarrassed. “I’m sorry Spin, it’s just…”
“There’s not need to apologize. You’ve had a rough week,” he replied as he closed the closet door. “What Maximista needs is a nice hot, relaxing, bubble bath”
“I guess I could go to Mac’s to take one.”
“You can take one here,” he informed her, pulling her up off the bed.
“But you only have a shower,” she replied, looking at him with confusion.
“Follow me,” he said, taking her hand and leading her across the hall.
“What are we doing in Jason’s room?” she asked from the doorway.
He remained silent as he ushered her into the bathroom. Spinelli smiled at the surprised look on her face.
Maxie was in shock. Jason had a massive jacuzzi tub in the middle of his bathroom. “You know, I would’ve never pegged Jason for a bubble bath type of guy,” she chuckled.
“Stone Cold let Samantha install it when they were together. If you look around, you may find some candles that she left behind.”
Maxie turned to Spinelli and gave him hug. “Thank you.”
“Maximista is most welcome. I’ll grab a shower myself and pick us up something to eat. Enjoy your bath,” he added as he walked out of the bathroom.
Maxie turned back toward the tub with a grin on her face. What would she do without Spinelli?
Spinelli had just stepped out of the shower when he heard Maxie call for him. He threw the towel around his waist and ran across the hall and into the bathroom. “What is it?” he stopped short at the sight before him. His Maximista looked like an angel bathed in the candlelight. His eyes drifted her toned leg that she had decided to rest on the side of the tub.
Maxie was stunned when Spinelli busted into the bathroom in nothing but a towel. All coherent thought left her as she watched a drop of water run down his chest toward the towel, wrapped around his lean waist.
Spinelli torn his eyes away from her lovely form and asked again what she needed.
She shivered at the sound of his seductive voice. Maxie looked as her hands as she spoke. “I just wanted you to make sure that you lock the front door when you leave.”
That’s all? “I will. Is that all you need of the Jackal?” he asked, his hand gripping the door knob. He really needed to get out of there before he did something stupid.
“Yes, I’m sorry for startling you,” she replied, sinking further into the bubbles.
Their eyes met and neither one could hide their lust.
Spinelli cleared his throat. “The Jackal will be back shortly with some much needed nourishment.” He gave her a small grin before he left the room, pulling the door to behind him. He walked back over to his room, dressed in record time, and left the apartment shortly thereafter.
Maxie took a deep breath as she finished her bath. She realized that she and Spinelli needed to sit down and talk about their feelings, for they had put it off way too long. Maybe after things calmed down with Robin and the baby. She wrapped the towel around her and headed back to their room to change.
Spinelli walked into the penthouse with a bag from Kelly’s. He moved toward the kitchen to place her soup in the microwave before going upstairs to check on her. He walked into his room to find her lying on the bed in one of his t-shirts, fast asleep. Groaning softly, he made his way over to her and began pulling the covers up over her bare legs.
“Spin,” she moaned as she turned over. “I’m sorry. I only meant to lie down for a second…”
“Don’t worry about it, you obviously need your rest,” he replied, sitting down on the bed beside her.
“I didn’t realize how tired I was until now.”
“Well it has been well over twenty-four hours since you last slept. It’s understandable.”
“The same goes for you. Why don’t you take a nap with me?” she asked as she started to make room for him.
He stopped her. “Stone Cold is in need of the Jackal’s assistance, so I have to meet him at the hospital.”
“Is it Robin?” she asked with worry.
“No, no, Robin’s condition is still the same and the Karate Kid in training is fine. It’s nothing for you to worry your pretty head about,” he assured her.
Maxie smiled at his nickname for Emma. “Well don’t let Jason talk you into doing something illegal or dangerous. Remember, you’ve almost won Mac completely over, so don’t do anything to jeopardize that.”
Spinelli was curious at the mention of Mac, but he decided to let it slide for the moment. “Your soup is in the microwave. I’ll call if I hear anything,” he replied as he stood up.
“Oh, could you hand me my phone and present, they’re over on the dresser?”
He nodded, moving over to the dresser to retrieve her orange phone and his present to her. He would have to ask her later about her color choice for her new phone. “Here you go,” he said, handing her things to her.
“Thank you,” she replied, taking the objects from his hand.
Spinelli moved to leave, but she grabbed the strap of his messenger bag and pulled him down to her, placing a soft kiss on his cheek. He rose up and they smiled at one another before he turned to leave, pulling the door close behind him.
Maxie snuggled back under the covers and pulled his pillow against her and said the four little words that she couldn’t seem to say to his face, “I love you Spinelli.”
“I love you Maxie,” he whispered from the other side of the door, before heading down the stairs.
