Excerpt: she pauses at the entrance, sees men and women dancing on the streets behind venetian masques -- (they don't want to be seen) -- and some in elaborate dresses made of wings and bits of icarus and apollo, maybe aphrodite and eros too. the strange elf who keeps track of those coming in and out, the one with the face of a mythical creature but the red eyes of sin, looks at her curiously, warily.
