Okay, first know that I have no illusions about the Twilight series. I know this is not great literature. People will not be reading this in high school classes fifty years from now. But damn if it isn't brain crack like no other.

So I read BD, and honestly, it read like a fanfic. A tolerable fanfic, but nonetheless. I think it was the kid that did it. But I'm a total sucker for kidfic, ask anyone. And let's face it, no one resists Renesmee. :P (The name smushing thing was a little weird, but it's not like Bella and Edward are going to have the chance again.)

I saw a lot of things before it happened but honestly, I did NOT see the Jacob imprinting on Nessie thing. DID NOT SEE IT COMING. I freaked out a little. But I think that it was necessary, and not just for plot. It cemented the three -- Bella, Edward, and Jacob -- together like had to happen. Also, the rest of the vampires were kicking ass and taking names like no other. Especially Carlisle and Alice. Have I given voice to my adoration for Carlisle and Alice lately? I probably haven't, so I should just do that now.

I liked meeting all of the other vampire covens. I'm just. I'm a sucker for that kind of thing, I am. Stephenie Meyer talks about her characters the same way I talk about mine, like they're dictating the story to her (and honestly, that's how it reads but whatever). I have to wonder how many of those characters were like ME MY TURN TO TALK or THAT'S NOT WHAT I SAID. They say that writing is the only socially acceptable form of schizophrenia, and that goes double for anyone who's writing about vampires. (... Or werewolves. >_>) Also, VOLTURI. I LOVE THE VOLTURI. I know that they're kind of supposed to be the bad guys (and Carlisle says that they're only bad guys to people who break the law, but COME ON Stephenie Meyer wasn't fooling anyone), but damn if they aren't cool.

The random Kate/Garret made me feel fuzzy inside (because I don't know how that goes, OH NO) and also, Buffy fans, if there be any crossover... was anyone else amused by a vampire named Liam in the Irish coven? I almost have to wonder if it was a nod to our dear Angelus. :) Something tells me not, but I dare you to tell me that it's something you wouldn't be tempted to do. XD

Also, the cover is kind of cool and makes SO much sense now for so many reasons. Bella WAS the pawn: red, moving only in one direction, and a piece that different people wanted to control. But she became the queen: pale and the most powerful piece on the board. The entire last third of the book, they also started what they thought was an endgame with the Volturi. They didn't think that they could win, but they had to play it out anyway.

All in all, I'm pretty happy with it. I don't think that it was out of the realm of what anyone with their head on their shoulders was expecting from Meyer. Although as I understand it, there were a lot of people in the fandom who did not enjoy it. I don't know why. But I intend to seek out the wank and be amused. (... but first, GRE math and vocab for today. >_>)

Also, the urge to crossover Twilight with Buffy despite the differing mythologies is still rising.

In non-Twilight related news, I start my job at the video store tomorrow. I am nervous but it's not anything beyond what's normal. I'm pretty calm about it, it's not going to be the most difficult job I'll ever have. But it's going to put money in my account and give me great motivation to get out of here, and hopefully not too many stories for customers_suck.

work hard for the money, books books books, twilight
