Martha stood in the middle of a large room with marble floors and beautiful stone statues (none of which were angels) waiting for the little girl’s mother to come.

A few minutes passed before a woman finally entered. She was dressed in a crystal-blue dress that shimmered as she walked. Even her blonde hair, tied up in a bun, seemed to glow. “A star, you say?” the woman asked, looking at the little girl.

“She fell from the sky,” the child reasoned.

“All right,” the woman replied. “Why don’t you go upstairs and play while I talk to your star?”

“Yes, mummy.” And with that, the little girl skipped away down a hallway towards the upstairs.

Martha looked at the shimmering woman before her, unsure of what to do.

The lady spoke first. “I am Lady Yvaine, Queen of Stormhold. And you are?”

“Martha Jones.”

“Ah,” she said. “Are you mortal?”

She raised her eyebrows. “I suppose. I’m human, if that’s what you mean. Are you… alien?”

Yvaine laughed. “No, I’m a star. A few years ago I fell and was lucky enough to land in Stormhold. If I landed across the Wall, then I’d be a rock. What humans think of as stars.”

“You’re joking,” was all Martha could think of to reply.

“I take it you’re not really a star, as my daughter thought.”

She shook her head. “Let me explain.” And so she did, telling of her fall from the TARDIS into the snowdrops and meeting the little girl. “I just need to find the Doctor. Then I can go.”

The woman only nodded. “You’re lucky to have landed into the snowdrops. That’s what saved you. I’ll send word through the kingdom to look for this blue box, so that you may return safely to your world. But until then…”

Martha gulped. “I’m not in trouble, am I?”

“Certainly not,” Yvaine said, shocked. “I would be a bad hostess if I didn’t offer my guest food and lodging.” She smiled. “This way.”

Martha smiled back and followed the glowing star to the kitchen.

“We’re nearly there,” the Doctor observed from behind Jack on the scooter. He sighed a little, leaning into Jack as they pressed on.

“Everything okay?”

“I’m just tired,” he replied, straightening up. “And worried too, I suppose.”

They reached the white picket fence of a tiny cottage. Stepping off the scooter and leaving it just outside the gate, the two men walked towards the door.

“Do you think she’s here?” Jack asked as he rapped on the door.

“Well, Martha’s smart. She would probably go to the nearest house,” the Doctor reasoned. “And if she’s not here, then I guess they’ll tell us another home nearby. Hopefully.”

A young woman with dirty blonde hair opened the door. “Yes?” She looked at the Doctor and Captain Jack strangely.

“Hello, Miss,” the Doctor began. “I’m looking for my friend, she’s lost. Have you seen anyone that might possibly look a little out of place?” The young woman was dressed in the style of late nineteenth century England.

“No,” she shook her head.

“Ah, right,” he replied. “She must have landed in a big field like we did and could have gone in any direction. Are there any other houses or establishments nearby?”

The woman looked over the Doctor and Jack strangely. “You said she fell from the sky?” she asked.

“Yes, I’m afraid she might even be hurt.”

“Oh, that could be tragic,” the woman replied, a concerned look waved over her face, “if the king and queen find her.”

“Really?” Jack stepped into the conversation.

“Would you like to come in and rest?” the woman offered. “I can explain everything.”

They walked in behind her, Jack shutting the door.

“I’m the Doctor, by the way,” he introduced himself, “and this is my friend Captain Jack.” He introduced the captain instead of giving Jack the opportunity to flirt with the poor girl.

“I’m Victoria,” the girl said, putting a kettle over the fire for tea.

“So about the king and queen?” Jack asked. “We don’t want Martha falling into the wrong hands.”

She sat down at the table, gesturing for her guests to sit down too. She began the story of what went on in Stormhold about ten years prior. A star had fallen and fell in love with the man she was to marry. “She stole him away from me, but I moved on. Anyway, word is, they’re looking for a new star to give their daughter eternal life. They might mistake Martha for a star and cut out her heart.”

The Doctor was concerned. He sighed. “Is there any other place she could have gone?”

Victoria nodded. “If you continue west, you’ll reach the market just outside of Wall.” Just then, the tea kettle went off. Victoria stood up and walked across the kitchen to prepare the tea.

“So where are we exactly?” Jack turned to the Doctor.

“Stormhold, apparently,” he began, “which isn’t supposed to exist. There’s a legend in the village of Wall that if one is to cross a stone wall, they will end up in another world. It’s just legend.”

“Apparently not,” Jack laughed. “Do you think Martha’s at the market?”

“Only one way to find out.”

Victoria smiled, placing tea in front of the two men. “If you ask around at the village, I’m sure someone can help you.”

When the tea was finished, the Doctor stood up. “Thank you for your help, Victoria,” he said as they left.

“Good luck,” she said from the door, watching the men board the strange scooter.

This time, the Doctor drove with Jack riding behind him. His eyes were tired as he stared into the setting sun, searching for his Martha.
