Yellow roses. Maureen had never received yellow roses before. With Mark, they were always pink. When someone came to see her show, they were always red. But for their six month anniversary, Joanne had given her yellow roses.
They were gorgeous, regardless of their color. After a minute of two of gushing, Maureen attacked Joanne with kisses before placing them in a vase.
Now, hours later, Maureen wanted to know why. Why yellow roses. The two were tangled together under the sheets; Maureen’s head was nuzzled into the crook of Joanne’s neck.
“Pookie?”
“Mm?”
“Why did you get me yellow roses?”
“Don’t you like them?”
“I love them,” she answered. “No one’s ever given me yellow roses before. I just want to know why.”
Joanne smiled. “I wanted to get flowers that were just as pretty as you are.”
Maureen kissed her girlfriend chastely. “That’s so sweet.”
“But while I was looking,” she continued, “I realized flowers that pretty don’t exist, so I tried my best to find ones half as pretty.” She grinned at the blushing drama queen. “In hindsight, I wasn’t even close.”
