Last night Lily, Sadie, and I went to see the not so new Harry Potter movie (take two!))...just because. I like going to the theatres at night, I don't really know why. It's my new kick, or something along those lines.
But anyways, there was this young mother with her little girl and a baby who couldn't have been older than one and a half or so. They were seated in the row behind us, a couple of chairs over from this late-middle aged couple who were very vocal during the movie. They would mmm their approvals, and laugh too loudly...but were overly annoyed with the gurgling, cries, and squeals of the little baby. At one point the woman had the gall to lean over to the younger mother and say that she should leave the theatre because her baby was disturbing everyone else.
Honestly, I hadn't been all that bothered, and hadn't been paying that much attention to the child. The lady leaning over, pulled my focus a lot more than did the crying baby.
Perhaps I should not be a mother.
But anyways, the young mother left and was gone for awhile, her other little girl seated silently and watching the movie. I had been going to offer to help the Mom watch the baby when I went outside, so that she could check on her girl, if she wanted. I had already seen the movie, and either way, I wouldn't have minded staying outside and playing with the baby while the mother went in to see her other kid. But I realized that that would have sounded sketchy.
Towards the end of the movie, the mom and baby came back in, but stood in the aisleway by the door, so that you couldn't really see them...the baby was still squealing a bit, and the couple were tsking with annoyance...
They were honestly the two most distracting people in the theatre. I kid you not.
Usually, it's me.
But, anyways...the end of the movie came, and the mother came up the stairs with the baby, to call to her other girl. The woman of the middle-aged couple, who really did not need to say anything, said, "This really is no place for a baby".
It was quite apparent that the young mother was already rather embarrassed with the situation, so obviously it was apt for the other lady to bring attention to that. Right? The mom snapped at her saying that she, in her words "fucking paid for her to be here" and the other lady's husband, apparently coming to the defense of his wife said something like "fuck you, you fucking bitch". Obviously the most mature and hurtful insult you could get from someone of his age.
Then some other girl who seemed to have come from nowhere, but I'm guessing might have been with the older couple, turned around and said "grow the fuck up!"
A most completely uncalled for conversation, started by the woman with all the gut in the world, and really only causing the baby to suffer as the young mom stormed out of the theatres with her kids, swearing and shouting at the little baby.
I understand that theatres aren't really the best places for babies...they're loud and generally have frightening imagery. Especially in the case of Harry Potter and all the magical creatures, etc...But at the same time, the couple could have moved, and really had no right in getting involved.
End rantO_o
