hi, it's aunt trish. i love religous debates, I love being a catholic, it defines everything i do and all that i am. i am all for christmas, celebrating christ's birth on dec. 25 th. i know it's not the exact day, maybe not 3 wise men, does it really matter.? st. francis of asissi started the tradition of manger scene- around the 12 th century, which i am sure was okay by christ, as he blessed st. francis with his stigmata, gave him all sorts of special graces and gifts, (can't wait til i die to meet him...) as he does all saints, they are not listed actually in the bible, because they came after the bible was written. but that's okay, there are great people who came after the bible that God gave to us. i think we must use all the special things God has blessed us with, saints, angels, traditions whether they are or are not in the bible, it is our law, our guide, our jumping off board, and it's okay to make traditions as long as they are not taking away from God's word but enhancing it. i can not see where celebrating christmas as christ's birth is bad, it's just one more thing to help us remember christ came for us, and later died for us. it was the beginning. celebrating christ birth on dec. 25 reminds us what christmas is all about. it WAS a holy night(WHENEVER IT WAS- DATE IS NOT WHAT'S IMPORTANT) when christ was born, why would it not be. amid all the buying etc. most people still celebrate the right reason for the season, I LOVE THE IDEA OF CHRIST BEING BORN, WISE MEN COMING BEARING PRESENTS, THAT's WHY WE GIVE PRESENTS , a star and angels surrounding a manger, cave, stable etc. a baby, a king come to save His people, the quietness and peacefulness of that night, it is so beautiful, just picture it, christmas is just so beautiful. a baby being born is so beautiful but think about THIS Baby, and every christmas on the way to midnight mass i think of it especially of what a holy night it was and how wonderful it would have been to be there on what ever the date was. celebrating christmas is not casting off the word of God, it is celebrating it. love you bunches, Aunt Trish.
