Hungry, Hungry, Hunger Pangs

Oh, LJ. I feel I've been neglecting you a little bit. Rest assured -- just because there's a new blog, that doesn't mean I don't love you as much as I ever did.

Life in the Queendom is a bounty of awesome. I loving work, my family and this glorious fall weather! Hey, Mother Nature -- way to make amends for the summer! I'm busy, busy but generally speaking the state of affairs is sweet, tasty biscuits!

Speaking of biscuits, I need to make an appointment with my doctor and/or nutritionist soon. I've never had exemplary eating habits, but a of couple things came up this weekend:

1. I'm suddenly hungry ALL the time. This began on Friday afternoon. Despite eating a hearty lunch at two p.m., followed an hour later by a snack, I was RAVENOUS by five. The plan was to meet the King and the Prince after work, so we could drive to Toronto. Our departure was delayed by my snarling insistence that I needed TO EAT NOW. NOW NOW NOW NOW NOW! After dinner, I was fine for perhaps another hour, before my stomach began rumbling again. Saturday, I enjoyed the bounty of Rosh Hashanah brunch at my in-laws, but not even four solid hours of Jewish holiday feasting kept me feeling full. I suspect the appetite-spike is related to running. It's been almost two months, which is usually how long it takes for my body to respond to changes in my activity level.

2. My mom has been diagnosed as pre-diabetic. Both of her parents, her brother, my father's mother and three of my father's sisters developed adult onset diabetes. I think it's pretty safe to assume that I have a genetic predisposition for the disease. I'd like to delay it's development, if not avoid it altogether. Given my family's sugary DNA, curbing my candy consumption seems like a smart move. Beyond that, I'm hoping to get some good food-related advice.

If anyone knows of any good online resources -- particularly blogs, or meal-trackers I'd love to know about them. In the meantime, I've just devoured some homemade granola. I should be good for at half an hour.

foodstuffs, health
