Hello, Nerves. Hello, Anxiety. I wondered where you guys had disappeared to.
The second day of Fringe includes the opening performance of Oreo. I slept a surprisingly deep sleep last night, something that rarely happens the night before a show. I woke up; however, heart pounding, brain racing, trying to hold on to a dozen logistical details as well as the lines that I suddenly found myself struggling with during rehearsal last night.
So yes, I'm anxious but not overwhelmingly so. This is stage fright. It's unpleasant but managable. And if past precedent means anything, it will disappear shortly after I step on stage tonight.
Meanwhile, our first and only technical rehearsal takes place early this afternoon. I'm sure there are those who would panic at the thought of integrating such significant elements mere hours before the run begins. But I'm glad. Fingers crossed, all the new stuff will be fresh in my mind when we take the stage tonight.
Last night, a couple castmates and I took in the late night debut of
Enter Screaming. The script (penned by my friend and Fringe comrade Richard Hemphill) is fabulous! Intelligent, funny very contemporary and on-the-nose. With such an obviously brilliant script, I question some of the acting/directing choices. IMHO the script had the potential to deliver near non-stop laughs, but many of Hemphill's witticism were missed because of odd interpretation of certain lines. Nonetheless, it was a good way to start Fringe '09. I look forward to more!
