Girly Bits

As predicted, I coughed my way through yesterday's cunillingus workshop. Fortunately, the students seemed unaffected by my viral state. They were an enthusiastic bunch of kids, who participate enthusiastically and asked really good questions.

One of the most interesting segments of the workshop (for me), is the section on basic anatomy. People are always surprised by the complexity of girly bits. Hell, I was suprised the first time I learned that the clitoris is actually a relatively large, wishbone shape collection of nerves and not just that little ball.

But something else happened during yesterday's session that made me glad, sad and mad all at the same time.

The overwhelming majority of the attendees at yesterday's workshop were men. So my co-presenter took a few moments to explain that the cunts shown in most (mainstream) pornographic films and images were surgically/cosmetically enhanced. Upon hearing the news there was an audible gasp. Those kids were SHOCKED!

They began asking all kinds of questions. What kind of surgery? What kind of enhancements? So we told them women's vulvas vary a great deal in appearance and that the plump, tight, even lips you see in pornography are often the result of labiaplasty. A few of the guys and most of the women, cringed when we told them that there was snipping and stitching involved. Several men didn't know that women had pubic hair.

So I was glad that we had the discussion with those kids. And I was glad that may have dispelled a few body myths for them.

And I was sad because I know that there are a lot of people who will be hurt, shamed and frustrated because they have unrealistic expectations of what they or their partner should look like.

And I was mad, because pornography can be a fun and healthy way to explore sexuality. But I hate the deception involved in mainstream material. At the very least, I which there was more transparency and honesty about why these people look and perform the way they do. Most people know about the fake boobs, but not the rest of it. It is quite literally, a carefully crafted fantasy world. And unless we want partner who spend the better part of their free time (and money) being cut, tucked, bleached, waxed, injected and groomed, we can't expect them to look anything like what we see on our computers, TV screens or in magazines.

That's my rant for today. Thank you.
