I'm looking for book recs. I'm in the mood for a novel, something reasonably light and easy. I'd also consider non-fiction, as long as it's on the topic of something fun/hopeful and won't make me feel like the world is going to hell in a handbasket. I need a break from that.

But the parents are as messed up as anybody else in the book, which is a refreshng change. Or, at least they acknowledge it, in parts.
I love the metaphor of being careful what you wish for, making your own bed and having to lie in it, the whole Frankenstein-ian (forgive that) idea of never being asked to be made, and then suffering through life because you have to. I love anything with a frankenstein 'woe is me i never asked to be born' bent, though.
And the endless forced dependancy - being born with no arms and no legs is one thing, but being born into that situation breeds a whole other kind of dependancy. TO me, that's what the book is about, and I never did consider that to be love before. hmm... I shall have to think about that.
And, things with flippers are oh so compelling. Have you read Tom Piccirilli's A Choir of Ill Children? It has many of the same themes, plus a lot of 'us vs them' (are the freaks the freaks, or are the normals the real freaks?), which I just love.
