I made my students do a writing prompt at the beginning of class today. Here are a few answers (grammar and spelling have not been changed).
Question: What is your favorite Christmas song and why?
Answers:
"My favorite Christmas song is Santa Claus is coming to town. I like this song because it tells you that Santa is coming to your town."
(Thank you, Captain Obvious.)
"My favorite Christms song is We Wish You a Whacky Christmas (a Boomwhacker arrangment I've had my 6th graders working on). It is my favorite song because I like the tune because I like the sound. The performer is Miss Woodward she is great. It reminds me of a whacky Christmas."
(Suck-up.)
"Jingle Bells is my favorite song. Why is it my favorite song is it reminds me of my dog and he died. He always past the tree and the Bells would ring and we had an ornament and it would say jingle bells jingle bells evry time the bells rang."
(Aww.)
"My favorite Christmas song is who put the d*** on the snowman. It reminds me of my grandpa who died. I think he would say that because when I little my dad did that and my grandpa got really mad at my dad."
(From the infamous 7th grade class, no doubt.)
"This Christmas because Chris Brown sing it and he's my favorite singer and he's sooooo CUTE!"
(This was a pretty popular response.)
"I don't like Christmas music because lil wayne don't sing it. And it's boring. And to happy."
(At least he's honest.)
And, my personal favorite.
"Margaritaville. When your drunk it's a great song."
To which I said: "That's not a Christmas song."
His response: "It is if you're drunk enough."
Oy.
