Scavengar hunt and book game

Aug 08, 2006 23:51

This summer is so lazy. The things I have done to entertain myself are a bit scary. Example: register to vote, pace back in forth in my basement to break hiking boots in bc it is hot outside, watch every episode of Gilmore Girls, seasons 1-3, and of course an impromptu scavenger hunt that was entirely too much fun. Highlights include:

Sarah and the nasty bowling shoes
Me proposing to a stranger
Greer and Gimli together at last
Bursting into Johnny Rockets while it was closing, posing with a ketchup bottle, and darting out
Mr. Spires playing DDR
Sitting in the middle of the street trying to find the Gay Way sign

Kendal's book game from earlier was quite amusing so I'll be a copy cat. I'll post a first line and you guess which book. These are kind of random.

1)I am doomed to remember a boy with a wrecked voice--not because of his voice, or because he was the smallest person I ever knew, or even because he was the instrument of my mother's death, but because he is the reason I believe in God.
A Prayer for Owen Meany, John Irving

2)The village of Holcomb stands on the high wheat plains of western Kansas, a lonesome area that other Kansans call "out there."
In Cold Blood, Truman Capote

3)"Christmas won't be Christmas without any presents," grumbled Jo, lying on the rug.
Little Women, Louisa May Alcott

4)It was a dark and stormy night. In her attic bedroom Margaret Murry, wrapped in an old patchwork quilt, sat on the foot of her bed and watched the trees tossing in the frenzied lashing of the wind.
A Wrinkle in Time, Madeleine L'Engle

5)Three hundred and forty-eight years, six months, and nineteen days ago today the Parisians were awakened by the sound of loud peals from all the bells within the triple precincts of the City, the University, and the Town.
The Hunchback of Notre Dame, Victor Hugo

6)It was a bright cold day in April, and the clocks were striking thirteen.
1984, George Orwell

7) It is a sin to write this. It is a sin to think words no others think and to put them down upon paper no others are to see.
Anthem, Ayn Rand

8) High atop the steps of the Great Pyramid of Giza a young woman laughed and called down to him. "Robert, hurry up! I should have married a younger man!"
Angels and Demons, Dan Brown

9)At night I would lie in bed and watch the show, how bees squeezed through the cracks of my bedroom wall and flew circles around the room, making that propeller sound, a high pitched zzzzzzz that hummed along my skin.
The Secret Lives of Bees, Sue Monk Kidd

10) In 1980, a year after my wife leapt to her death from the Silas Pearlman Bridge in Charleston, South Carolina, I moved to Italy to begin life anew, taking our small daughter with me.
Beach Music, Pat Conroy

Most of these are fairly easy. So, I expect answers people!
