Letter #2

Received my second letter from Gerald...

This whole writing back and forth exclusively is sort of sweet. It's classic, that's for sure and I love the excitement of running to the mailbox to see if I got anything from him. And when I actually do see his handwriting, my heart does a little jig and I'm just so excited. I hope he has gotten my letters - I just realized that I had his address a tiny bit wrong. I have faith in the Postal Service though, I really do.

Excerpt:

Well, today is Sunday; easily my favorite day of the week. I just got back from the Buddhist Service. (The recruits have the option of attending church on Sundays or just skipping.) It's really enjoyable. Definitely helps me relax and remain at peace. They teach us meditation breathing exercises that help out while standing at attention for long periods of time.

There are some parts of recruit training that I think you would appreciate. For example, we've gotten classes on core values that really preach against prejudice and using force as only a last resort. Then again, you would not have liked the first-aid class... very graphic. I don't think you would like meal-time, either. We have to shovel food in our mouths as fast as possible, eat with one hand, sitting against the table, heels together, cup against the tray, extremely structured, all while getting screamed at to go faster.

But, I get by thinking chow to chow and also week to week. Makes the time go by faster. 10 weeks, 5 days, And each day seems to go by quicker. bout 2 times/week we do martial arts training. That's also one of my favorite things, except that we're in camouflage head to toe and it's really hot outside in the afternoons. Fun, though. I think next week we start with the pugil sticks. Awesome!

Mmmm, 7 pages from my sweet thang. I can't wait until he gets home (he can't either)! I will load him up with beer and food, delicious food... he can eat with both hands at the table, feet wherever he pleases, cup off the tray... he can take two hours to eat and nobody will scream at him. And, he can get drunk. So... so drunk.

Hooray for Gerald!
