Grandpa-
It was a hard moment
To stand and say good bye
I moved to your side
And I began to cry
I remembered back
to when I was small
You taught me so many things
I can’t recall them all
At your side I thanked you
For teaching me chess
For teaching me golf
For showing me how a good man lives life
Standing upright and tall
It was so hard
It didn’t seem fair
All of those years
I never said how much I cared
As time ticked by
You were always there…
My brother stepped across the bed,
And reminded me of the time you spent,
Helping us with our Eagle Projects,
I never told you how much that meant,
We promised to take care of grandma,
I looked down at you in your bed,
Told you I loved you
I mean every word I said.
“Later Gramps” was all I could stomach,
I couldn’t express everything you meant to me,
I hope you understood
I knew your soul was going to run free.
I miss you gramps,
And now soon we will bury you,
All this seems like fiction
But it is all coming true.
I know you are in heaven,
Playing whatever game you wish,
Someday I might get to join you,
I will prepare your favorite dish.
I preyed for you tonight,
Been thinking about you too,
Hope Heaven is everything you expected it to be…
I love you.
Your number #1 Rugrat,
Josh
