How to put this. You're seein' me and talkin' to me through a "golem" right? That's probably yer 'device'. Basically, people in all kindsa times and places got different stuff that hooks 'em up to this duck place. There's about a hundred people or somethin' like that who're hooked in. Like a... big pen pal pool. With video. And sound.

[Greed grabs the webcam and turns it towards a nondescript desktop computer, jostling it, showing the keyboard, the mouth, the screen--which has Allen's own video on the screen, and a chaotic mess in the small square where the optical feedback kicks in from the camera.]
