[Mag is sitting on the edge of her mattress in Dee's apartment, facing the window. On the ledge sits a small mockingbird, perched so that he faces Mag. With a low male voice, the bird begins to sing:]

Green finch and linnet bird
Nightingale, blackbird
How is it you sing?
How can you jubilate
Sitting in cages
Never taking wing?
Outside the sky waits
Beckoning, beckoning
Just beyond the bars
How can you remain
Staring at the rain
Maddened by the stars?
How is it you sing anything?
How is it you sing?

[Mag claps enthusiastically when he finishes, and the bird bends his legs in a small bow.] That was wonderful!
