[A video opens up showing Kaylee halfway under the engine of Serenity, tinkering with stuff and humming to herself. Eventually she starts talking to the ship.]

I'm Kaylee! It's nice to meet ya, Jim. [Kaylee perks up at him calling Serenity a beauty.] Ain't she? Glad someone can appreciate it. Most folks say she looks like junk but they don't know nothin' obviously.

That's a shiny way of thinkin'. I'm gonna tell someone that next time they try and call her a piece of gose.

Been livin' on her 'bout three years and been workin' on her just as long.

And what do you do? I mean, your ship. What sort of work does she do?

We, um, transport goods for folk who don't got a ship.

I... see.

Mighty altruistic of you.

she's trying to make smuggling sound good :D

Ain't sure what altruistic means but our work's good for them out on the rim who most folk won't deliver to. We've helped out a lot of people. Course we don't do it for free as we're makin' a livin' ourselves but the price ain't too bad.

Jim's on to her, a bit, but she's cute.

Yup! [Quick subject change because she thinks he sound like a law man type.]

So do you work on a ship too?

I do. I'm the captain of the Enterprise.

Have you heard of Starfleet?

[realshiny]

Oooh, a captain? Shiny! Your ships got a pretty name too. Any meanin' to it?

Can't say I have. Though if we're in different 'verses that explains it. What's Starfleet?

Some. Actually, it's carrying a proud tradition--there are ships named "Enterprise" dating back to the old sailing days. But it does fit our mission.

Starfleet is an exploratory force--not a military, but the star-going branch of the Federation, which is my universe's coalition of planets. We explore, conduct scientific experiments, and so what work needs to be done throughout the galaxy.

...What kinda experiments? I know ya said ya ain't feds but the feds here do experiments. On people. They ain't nice experiments neither.
