Exciting day for me...
It's been an exciting day for me. This afternoon I found a box waiting on my porch when I arrived home from work. I didn't know what it could be, but it turned out to be my new camera! I just got the shipping notice from UPS yesterday, so I thought I wouldn't see it until next week, so I was mega-pleased to get it today. I quickly installed the batteries and a memory card and grabbed a doll (Gideon, Mr. Muse himself) and went outside to grab some really fast trial shots.
My choice was a Canon PowerShot SX10 IS, a 10MP camera with a 20X optical zoom. I considered digital SLR's but decided I wasn't quite ready for one yet, and have been eyeing this rather deluxe point-and-shoot since before Christmastime. I loved my trusty Canon PowerShot A610, but it's getting ancient (by digital camera standards - it's almost three years old and I've taken over a hundred thousand pictures with it) so it was time to allow it to retire gracefully. It still works, but it's developed a few minor issues, and since I am about to take a pay cut at work, I decided the time to replace it was now or possibly never.
The shots here are very preliminary. I made no attempt to adjust any settings except the zoom, and didn't even use a tripod. I think I'm going to love the image stabilization feature; something my old model did not have.
The following shot is nothing special, unless you know that in the past, I was never able to get good balance taking photos of the very pale Dollshe resin against a dark background, without the light colors washing out. Again, the camera was on full automatic when I took this...

To say I am pleased woud be a real understatement. So far, I'm ecstatic.
Can't wait to really get into using the camera's great features - this time I am determined to learn a little more of what it can do, than I ever did with my older model.
