Today I make a single post before dropping again off the face of this planet.

Why are so many people "experts" in subjects they obviously have no clue about? The interweb is doomed if so much time is spent on forums and lj posting as an authority when you have no damn clue. I present exibit A:

Dear ayoahmp: Obviously you have never fired either of these rifles. Research done in Vietnam with the M16 showed that the higher velocity .223 round generally lacked the stopping power of the .308 and instead caused massive internal hemoraging leading to death. Do not confuse that with lethality. The .308 and the .223 caliber rounds are about equally lethal albeit in different manners.

Dear s7rugg1e: "The AK-47 is very good at what is made for, being an adaptable and easy to use assult rifle. The M-16 is a big more powerful, has better trajectory, and has a lower fire/jam rate than the AK. All in all, I'd rather buy a M-16."

Stop smoking crack.

By definition the recoil of the ak makes it more difficult to control than the lighter recoiling and heavily recoil suppressed family of ar/m16s. The larger calibur of round in the ak is inherently more accurate in high wind conditions although the action of the ak is less accurate. The heavier weight round exits the barrel at a relatively low velocity causing a "looping" trajectory. The m16 family will never jam less than the ak. Never even in dreamland.

Dear Future: The only piece in the ak47 that rattles is the mag well. Which by no means is an indicator of quality of construction regardless how cheap the ak47 may be. The effective range of the ak is well withing the 200 yard sweet spot that most confrontations are initiated at. Let me rephrase that: The effective range of a well made ak is well withing the 200 yard sweet spot that most confrontations are initiated at. Obviously an ak with a fucked up crown and rod scratches all in the barrell isn't going to be accurate. Neither will any rifle treated like that for the matter. The ak47 is a "combat rifle" not intended for use as a 400 yard high powered rifle. Same goes for the m16 there.

Dear codouble: First off, the ak and the m16 are usually the same size overall. Although both come standard in different barrel sizes. Also, the m4 isn't a "modern" idea. It's the same m16 action with a short barrel. Although that shorter barrel does affect the velocity of the round and affects performance of the gas system.

Dear SENOR EZPERANZA: Buy a pistol for home defense instead. Have fun getting out of bed and grabbing your ak when something goes bump in the night. That long barrel is just going to be a liability unless you are absolutely confident in what you plan to do with it.

Dear frickinEinstein: The .223 was not intended for maiming. It was designed as one of the first "intermediate" styled cartidges which had the benefit of less overall weight, higher magazine capacity, and more controllable recoil over the older full sized cartridges.

Your spouting of bullshit makes me want to kick your ass. You sound like a socialist fucktard cumbucket.

Dear cornyclown: We have a winner. You have done your homework.

Dear openup: Rifles will never cease to exist no matter how much you may wish they go away. Criminals will always gravitate towards them as they are the most efficient way to kill someone. You can never keep firearms away from criminals no matter how many you ban. Shouldn't we then as responsible citizens be obligated to carry the best we can to protect ourselves and those we love. Go research firearms legislation and how it has an positive relationship with violent crime before you spout your propaganda. That is to say that as legislation increases so does violent crime and as legislation decreases so does violent crime. Lookup John Lott and have fun shattering your reality.

I'm proud of myself for not flying off the handle here and hitting my soapbox. Still, I wish I could take you from your nice apartment and then give drop you off in some hostile place with the option of a rifle and see how fast you grab for it.

Dear Guest: The very first ak47s were made with milled recievers. THAT ISN'T WHY THEY RATTLE!

Go to ultimak.com. You will find pictures of American troops showing off their aks. Many troops prefer the knockdown power of the larger 30 cal bullet. Identical slings are available with butt stock conversions.

Stop talking out your ass. I picked up 1000 rounds are the Washougal Merchantile today. That thing has a hot deli and a gas pump. Closest you'll get to a 7-11 out there. NONE of the rounds had improperly seated primers nor showed ANY signs of excessive case pressure. I handload, I should know.

I've got an AK47 sitting on my lap as I write this. Serial #05623. Now doesn't that make you feel special! Nor does it show anything about my qualifications to spout ot of my ass with the exception that I may have shot it..

The m4's shorter barrel has more problems than the A2 because it isn't long enough to reliably cycle to the gas system. Granted it works most the time just fine but it will not be as reliable as the A2.

Bayonet lugs are plenty legal on any firearm now thanks to the stupid assualt weapons ban expiration. Previously they were STILL legal on pre-ban firearms. Lugs are not subject to class 3 liscense.

Dear Romy: The majority of problems with the m16 during Vietnam was with the ammunition they rushed into service with it. Never was the ak chamber for .223 until recently. As far as I understand that's an American thing to chamber it that way anyway.

Dear Guest: The M16A2 doesn't come with decent optics out of the box. IT comes with an adjustable rear peep sight which admittedly is better than the leaf sight on the ak but certainly isn't a reflex sight.

I've already made it clear that a good ak is accurate enough for most confrontations.

Dear Stumay: Stop talking out your ass.

Thats where I leave off. It seems I can't read most forums anymore. Maybe I should just pull my head out of my ass and stop correcting people. But they are just soooo wrong.
