BEAUTIFUL PEOPLE

I just had my first Jump Rhythm class with Billy Ziegfield (the creator of Jump Rhythm!) today.   FANTASTIC.  He's so engaging...very sharp and funny and just so easygoing.  He loves what he does so much...it just radiates from him, and it makes you excited too.  Since this is a more advanced class, he threw us right into it, with handhits and turns and plenty of improvising.  Even when we got things wrong he loved it.  At one point we were supposed to improvise within certain counts, but we didn't quite understand so we just went at it, hitting off-beats and accents with abandon.  He laughed his head off  - "I LOVE you guys! No, I don't just love you, I LUV you.  With a U.  No...two Us.  LUUV."

He loves questions, and turns everything into a learning experience.  He speaks to his giant skeleton (used for emphasizing body placement) in a British accent and is full of random, facinating facts.  What an exciting, inspirational person.  By the end of class I felt like I was going to burst with HAPPY.  Between Billy and Mary (my Acting teacher, who is also AMAZING), I am so excited for this year...I have such fantastic people to learn from.

Another thought today that I forget too often:

I AM SO LUCKY.  I can take the time to learn to dance, to play, to explore...all I have to do for the next four years is work hard.  I've never been starving, never feared for my life or freedom, never worried about finding a place to sleep (except maybe for one night here and there), never had to give up on something I loved out of necessity.  I am surrounded by people who love me and whom I love in return.

The best thing I can do now is just try to be as much like these two people as possible...inspirational, hardworking, working to make people's lives better, working to further the art I have the power to advance, to reach more people, touch more people.

I am no wordsmith.  But it just boils down to the fact that I am so so so so fortunate.  I will, I must, always remain grateful.
