I've only been here for a week and it's been absolutely mind-blowing.
I'm living this lovely woman, Elise, and her 10 year old son Issiaka (who thinks it's amazing that I've been inside the statue of liberty) in their apartment on Rue de la Roquette, a vibrant neighborhood with lots of starving artists and energetic families. Food here is unbelieveable. There are roman ruins around every bend and people drive like they're immortal down the tiny, twisting roads that I'm slowly coming to know very well. A group of middle-schoolers taught me french swears in exchange for a translation of Green Day lyrics, and last night the streets were filled with music at the fete de la musique, where anyone who wants to can walk outside with their instrument of choice and just jam.
La vie provincial agrees with me, and spending whole afternoons in cafes sipping "coca" is good for the soul.
More later.
