Day 42

Oct 03, 2014 00:03

Last day of my elective today! I had kind of mixed feelings, but mostly I was glad to not have to do 8-5s anymore and be able to ride my bike during the day on weekdays (yes I love my bike). I got my photo with the team and went to clinic with the head to see like one patient before bidding her goodbye. Then I went and had lunch with the junior staff, and on the way out bumped into the paeds doctors too so it was great that I was able to bid goodbye to so many people. Gave my nametag and other stuff to the education centre, then bumped into one of our supervisors by the elevator. Small hospital! So yeah, was a nice and quick farewell to the hospital. I shall miss it, but I’m glad to be on holiday finally.

Went back to the hostel and ended up napping til dinnertime. I’d looked up a tempura place beforehand and so rode my bike there. Got distracted by the chestnut sweets shop next door too… uh oh. But anyway, I went in there and the one other guy (who looked very much like a regular) downstairs and I ended up chatting about the typhoon news that was airing on the TV in the shop. I was quite proud of myself because I actually started a conversation, and it turned out he spoke some Chinese so we communicated quite well. Then he gave me some of his yakitori and grapes hahaha. I must have looked hungry. Icing on the cake was that I was only charged 1000 yen for what I thought was a 1500 yen meal - I think they must have given me the wrong one actually, but it was plenty to eat so I was satisfied. Plus the tempura was so good! Fluffy and light compared to the chain store crap. Gotta say, Asakusa sure has a lot to eat.
