Day 30

Sep 21, 2014 13:45

There are a few reasons why I’d really like to live in Japan, and today I had the fortune to attend one of them. Fiona and I went to a doujin event at Tokyo Big Sight, where probably up to a thousand artists and many thousand fans of about 4 recently popular anime sold and bought doujinshi, respectively. It reminded me of my days selling my artwork behind the table - it’s been quite a while since I’ve been anything other than an attendee at an anime event. Not surprisingly, I ended up buying a few doujins with really nice art and bought myself a small sketchbook, in which I actually sat down to draw for the first time in many weeks. It’s only got 12 pages, so ideally I’ll finish it pretty quickly. I really want to draw and sell manga again! Ahhh, maybe one day in the distant future… the artists today looked mostly older than me and a good portion were definitely over 30, so I still have time!

In the evening we went to check out the squid ink black burger at BK. I haven’t had BK in years, but it was a pretty tasty burger and the fries were battered and delicious. I have no idea if the squid ink added any flavor, but if it did it wasn’t very strong. Afterwards we walked around Shinjuku’s dodgier areas for a bit before calling it an early-ish night since, well, there’s not much to do in Shinjuku at a time when respectable people are at home and shops are closed.
