Hung out with Alena again today and went to Yokohama this time. First thing that greeted us out of the station was the amazingly huge food floor of the station department store, which greatly impressed me. Buuuut we ended up getting lunch at the bakery upstairs, and although everything looked delicious it wasn’t quite so delicious once it hit my mouth. So I’ll comfort myself knowing all that food in the department store is probably the same. (Not likely.)
We headed to the park and took a tour around an old cargo/cruise ship with its interiors intact, which was quite interesting and well worth the entry fee of only 300 yen. Afterwards we hung around the park until mosquitos started attacking and checked out Chinatown for lunch. For some reason everybody and their mothers were selling chestnuts. Probably delicious, but also quite pricey… then again, this isn’t really China, and chestnuts aren’t actually dirt cheap, so I guess I should deal with it. Perhaps next time I’ll get some. This was a pretty impressive Chinatown though, consisting of a whole block and containing many specialty food shops (including moon cakes all year round) and restaurants that were fairly reminiscent of real Chinese food. Puts the Melbourne one to shame, that’s for sure.
After the sun set and we enjoyed the evening version of Chinatown transformed by neon lights, we headed over to the ferris wheel across the river which turned out to be part of an uncontained amusement park. We went on one of the rides and screamed ourselves silly before finally heading home. Good times, good times.
