So, maybe I'm on the slow bus here, but I don't tend to read the trades or keep up with interesting movies. However, last night was dull, so I read a bit on this year's releases. I noticed, in doing so, that Marvel's starting to produce it's own properties now, starting with Iron Man, and that they're trying to get their old properties (Spidey and the X-Men) back. Part of the reason for this is that they are looking to integrate the films into one Marvel Universe, which will begin with Tony Stark/Robert Downey, Jr making an (no longer rumored, supposedly) appearance in The Incredible Hulk and carry through the upcoming Captain America and Thor movies to lead into an Avengers film.
If they can pull this off without the quality of the films suffering (because, let's face it, Marvel tried this before with craptastic results), I say more power to them. I've always said it's a pity the Spider-Man and X-Men movies couldn't reference each other even in passing, since they were developed in two completely different production houses. And it might set an example for DC; if they're serious about green-lighting a Justice League movie, it would be nice to not change who's playing the Bat or the Boy Scout again.
