Doctor Who in french...sounds...um...interesting. I would only watch it to see what lines they screwed up. Voice acting is harder than it looks! Those actors have to portray the character as it is and put some emotion in the voices! Not sound like robots. I still think that Ianto's voice is the worst. My poor poor welsh Ianto.
My mother watches a lot of shows like NCIS, CSI, Doctor House in french, she doesn't really like them in english. I think it is because she understands french better. I don't really watch sitcoms but if I did I would watch them in english.
Changing the dialogue because its inappropriate is stupid becuase that takes out the meaning of the line. But from what I saw of Torchwood yesterday, they still had all the bad words and all. What buggs me is the bad translation of the lines or if they are too vague.
Like in Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, Jack looks at Ianto and says "I came back for you. For all of you". In the french version it sound like "Je suis revenu pour vous. Pour chacun de vous.". See not the same meaning because of the "vous". Because I think Jack would say "tu" if he taslked only to Ianto.
But I guess some lines could be better in french because the could have a deeper meaning than in english.
I went on the web site of the channel that aired Torchwood to see when the show was on and the replay of the episode at like 3p.m. That actually surprised me, because the show is not for kiddies. Let see them fall on Kiss Kiss Bang Bang or Adrift.
P.S: I don't think english people understand why I think the word "Torchwood" in french souns funny.
NCIS, CSI and House are actually quite good in french. I mean, of course, they change dialogues and that sucks, but the people who dub it are great! That's probably because whose a 'big' TV shows, so they can afford the best people to dub them.
