i.e. "I'm a female who's older than the gaming industry's target audience, so I've been socially conditioned to view games as something young people and/or lazy slobs do. Since the Wii's marketing campaign is so much less hostile to people like me than any other platform's, I feel comfortable playing it! It's like I can just have fun without having to be judged based on my age, gender, or lifestyle! And instead of actually giving an educated opinion on gaming, I'm just going to share my biased, inexperienced point of view of one system. Oh, plus, you don't actually have to LEARN TO DO ANYTHING! Because we all know that learning to press X to pick up an item would be too complicated for my female brain! Teehee!"
Okay, so I exaggerated a bit, but only a bit. I really hate the advertising industry, especially when it comes to games. Sure the Wii's doing some good by trying to break into a few new demographics, but as far as I'm concerned the gaming industry should've been doing that for years, and not only as a marketing ploy.
In short: fuck Ladies Home Journal, and fuck advertising. Also, I'm finding it extremely stupid how people are just now creaming themselves over the fact that if you actually move around while playing games, it's healthier than just sitting still. HURR. Isn't that common sense?
I agree with your hatred of game advertising...up till now it's been nothing but ads that assume ALL gamers are teenage boys, and now they're making ads for simplistic games aimed at middle-aged moms. Ordinary female gamers are still left out in the cold.
