“A few weeks ago, Bill Cosby spoke to a large audience of people and provoked those people to get out and do something with their lives. Don’t sit on your couch and wish about tomorrow…. He used much, much harsher words, but that was the general outline of his speech.
The Cartunes are a small group of three or four passionate local boys who genuinely love music. I don’t know how to describe the genre of these types of sounds. I would assume it be described as Punk Rock music, something I haven’t heard from since the 1970’s. I remember after hearing that type of music for the first time, not caring to hear it ever again. But they these guys go about doing things is in a very subtle manner - making sure to include melody as well as whatever social statement it is that they’re trying to make.
What I do know is that they seem to be very sincere and they enjoy what they’re doing. For the rest of their lives, they will have something to show for themselves. They have given something to their community before their community ever gave anything to them.
As a man of God, I do believe that we should encourage this type of uprising in life and in our city. For it belongs in the hearts and minds of every young person. They need something to believe in, not just the young people - all people, whether it be God, music, love or their own families.
My opinion is one for hope and optimism. They will endure the struggles of the war they are engaged in. They will battle on, each one of them, until their dying days.”
With Love,
