Poetry - Tankas - 4 poems

May 21, 2009 21:57

Hi! Just posting some tankas. For those who don't know, a tanka is a form of Japanese poetry which, much like a haiku, have lines with a specific number of syllables. It's a five-lined poem with a syllable pattern of 5-7-5-7-7.

Anyway, I've written four here, two of which are Merlin-related, two aren't... though one could be related to Merlin... I suppose.

1)   Merlin - One

Whisper of magic,
The softest touch, softest kiss,
Sun, moon, day and night,
Always, two sides of one coin,
Entwined in destiny's grasp.

2)   Merlin - Father

Father never smiles.
He says he's proud. One more lie?
I can never tell.
Uthur, king of Camelot
My one familiar stranger

3)   Other - Chess

After time, you learn
Strategy takes you so far
But the rest is luck.
We are but pawns in this game
Of battle and loss. Your move.

4)   Other - Castle

A haven for those
Caught in the mists of battle,
Sturdy walls protect
The nobility within
And those who will serve their king.
