Title: Ten months

Author: dragynflies

Rating: PG 13

Pairing: Elle Bishop/Gabriel Gray

Summary: A drabble collection across Elle’s pregnancy with Noah -- fluff alert.

Trying to get my muse jump started with some drabbles, LOL.

Month 1 - 4 weeks

Elle has been feeling off all week. She hasn’t said a word, hasn’t complained once, but Gabriel can see her turn a sickly shade of green anytime anyone eats in front of her, and she’s gone through three boxes of Saltines in a week.

When she finally agrees to take the pair of pregnancy tests Gabriel waves at her, she gets one positive and one negative. Figures.

Month 2 - 8 weeks

The thing about Elle is she has no idea what to do when someone tries to comfort her. The first time Gabriel catches her clutching the sides of the toilet he pulls her hair back from her face and rubs her back. Elle startles, and pushes him away from her without even thinking about it. When her stomach settles, she brushes her teeth and tucks herself back into bed.

He tries again the next time, but Elle looks at him like he’s gone crazy, “I can take care of myself.”

“I know,” he says, and carefully pulls her hair into a ponytail, “but I like to take care of you too.”

Month 3 - 12 weeks

Elle is so tiny that her stomach starts to pop sooner than most women. She’s fine with her little tummy, doesn’t whine about being fat or endlessly ask Gabriel if she’s still pretty (she knows she is) but she throws a little hissy fit when she gets home from the maternity store.

“I am not a grandma, and I don’t like flowers!” she snaps at Gabriel as she throws the only bag of clothes she managed to buy on the bed, “I’m not dressing like a plant for the next seven months.”

Gabriel spends three horrifying hours in the mall the next day, and comes home with dress clothes a size up from what she normally wears, then pays a tailor twice what their going rate is to have the clothes adjusted in two days.

Month 4 - 16 weeks

Pregnancy makes Elle’s already unstable mood twice as unstable, and Gabriel finds himself walking around on eggshells. Sometimes he thinks he’s more scared of Elle than he’s ever been of another person. Elle’s power is second nature to her, and when she’s upset, it’s a reflex for the little ball of electricity to roll around in her hand.

Gabriel knows he’ll heal right away, but there’s something disconcerting about his tiny, pregnant girlfriend throwing energy balls at him while screaming about something he did two weeks ago.

Month 5 - 20 weeks

Elle is sure the baby is a boy. Absolutely, positively without a doubt, sure the baby is a boy.

Gabriel knows Elle is having a girl. He cites his ability as a way to know for sure, but Elle just rolls her eyes and tells him she’s going to name the baby Noah (mostly because she gets a kick out of watching him glare every time she tells him.)

At her doctor’s appointment, the baby sleeps through the ultrasound, legs tucked up and body turned away from the machine.

It doesn’t matter. Elle knows it’s a boy just as much as Gabriel knows she’s having a girl.

Month 6 - 24 weeks

Elle sits on their bed and watches Gabriel put the oak crib together without glancing at the directions. (Or even getting up from his spot next to her on the bed.)

“I’m pretty sure I read that it’s a rite of passage for the dads to have to struggle to put the crib together. I think you’re supposed to pinch a couple of fingers while you’re at it.”

He settles for tickling her until she laughs, and then kisses her until she stops.

Month 7 - 28 weeks

For two people who have taken so many lives, creating new life is something foreign for them. The baby is a good start to their future, and Gabriel is absolutely fascinated by the tiny body moving around inside of Elle’s stomach.

She says she tolerates him, because she won’t admit to liking it when he tugs up her shirt and kisses wherever the baby kicks. It doesn’t matter, he can see her grin when he talks to their daughter son child.

Month 8 - 32 weeks
Elle has been tired for days -- even moving off the couch seemed like too much work for her, but one day Gabriel comes home to find her on her hands and knees, scrubbing their (already clean) kitchen floor.

He sets the shopping bag of pink clothes next to the bag of blue clothes on the couch and gets out of her way. He’s wearing his favorite shirt, and he doesn’t feel like having it scorched.

Month 9 - 36 weeks

The first contraction catches Elle completely off guard. They come at completely irregular intervals and the doctor smiles gently at the first time parents when he explains they’re Braxton-Hicks contractions, and Elle is not going to have the baby tonight.

Gabriel spends the entire night sitting up with her, rubbing her back while she whimpers her way through the false contractions. When they finally stop as the sun comes up, Elle falls asleep on top of him, cradled in his arms.

Month 10 - 40 weeks

When their son is born, Elle is too excited and Gabriel is too happy for any “I told you so’s” to take place. Somewhere along the line the name Noah ended up sticking, and even the baby quiets down when Elle whispers the name.

“You know everyone’s going to think this is some grand gesture,” he says as he cradles their brand new son.

“Let them,” she tells him, “I don’t care what they think. Not anymore.”
