Summary: Kbell’s 30th birthday party.
Notes: Dear KB & ZQ,
I am super sorry for writing this, but look. I was pissed about Heroes, and the shit that went down, and I was too angry to work on my HEROES fanfic, which you guys also sort of star in, but in a less creepy way, and so I had to write this instead. Love, Dragynflies
Beta’d as per usual by the lovely cruiscin_lan who wins at life.

Thirty is shaping up to be the best birthday ever, she’s pretty sure. Between the four movies she’s got coming out, his new TV show, amazing friends and their brand new house, she’s got everything she could ever want. From her vantage point on the couch, curled up on his lap, she can watch everyone and still get snuggles.

Across the room, she sees Hayden roll her eyes and come over to join her and Zach on the couch.

“Happy birthday, anti-social type person,” Hayden says, flopping down on the couch and grinning at her friends.

“I’m not anti social,” Kristen smirks, tucking her head under Zach’s chin, “I’m comfortable.”

“Is that what the kids are calling it these days?” Hayden teases, handing Kristen a little box, “Here. Happy birthday.”

“Presents!” Kristen rips into the little box gleefully, crinkling her forehead when she pulls out the little dog collar. “Is this a hint? Lola needs a new collar?”

Zach kisses her neck and picks her off his lap, dropping her onto the couch next to Hayden, “No. But someone else might want one.”

Kristen’s eyes widen and she looks around the room. One, two…three… Her dogs are all here and accounted for, and are busy being little attention whores.

Ryan comes out of the spare bedroom, a box clutched in his hands. There are little holes punched in the box, and it’s barking. He sets the box carefully in Kristen’s lap and takes off to find his wife - they’re attached at the hip and adorable as usual.

“You got me a puppy?” Kristen questions as she opens the box. A wiggly little dog sticks its head out, licks her nose.

If she hadn’t already known her boyfriend was the perfect man, this would prove it. The little mutt dog is fluffy and brown, and wagging her little tail so hard that she might actually catch some air.

“Not quite a puppy. She’s four,” Zach tells her, “The people at the shelter told me that her owners had to move and dropped her off.”

“I love her!” Kristen scoops up the wiggling dog, who snuggles right into the curve of her neck, licking happily.

“You’ll never guess what the shelter named her,” Zach says, scratching the puppy and planting a kiss below Kristen’s ear.

He points to the cheap collar around the dog’s neck, with the little piece of paper taped to it. Kristen tips it up to read it.

“Elle? No way. We are changing that; let’s not relive train wrecks. You’re just lucky I forgive you for getting me involved in that.”

Zach laughs lightly, tugging Kristen and the new dog into his lap. He bites her earlobe, “Don’t pick on my old show.”

“Onto bigger and better things,” she shrugs, and it’s true; his pilot got rave reviews and a 22 episode contract from FOX.

Hayden takes the dog out of Kristen’s hands, “Name her Claire. Not all of us got brand new TV shows and movie deals when Heroes got cancelled.”

“Whatever , Hayden,” Kristen says, reaching out for her friend, “You’re adorable, you’re talented, you’ll get something in no time. Take a vacation in the mean time. Want to come to Australia with me when I start filming?”

Hayden smiles, “You’re right. Thanks. And yeah - provided I’m not working, I’d love to.”

Kristen claps, “Now, no sadness. There is cake and there is ice cream. Except, I heard a rumor that Ryan was going to swap out the veggie burgers with real ones, so he must be paid attention to.”

The couple watches Hayden take off to the kitchen, the tiny dog clutched to her chest. Zach turns to Kristen and raises an eyebrow. “All alone again with the prettiest girl here,” he says, brushing her bangs back from her face.

“Alone?” Kristen glances around the full house. But it’s true - hardly anyone is still in the living room. “If they cut the cake without me…” Zach shuts her up with a kiss. Several minutes later, she pulls away, eyes bright, “if they cut the cake without me, I’m totally okay with that. More please.”

He’s sort of regretting throwing her a surprise party now, because she’s all pressed against him and kissing him while she plays with the sensitive little hairs at the back of his neck. He throws caution to the wind and kisses her back, letting his finger trace the line of pale skin that peeks out from between her jeans and her little shirt.

He’s lost in her, like always, and it’s only when he hears several obnoxious catcalls that they pull apart to glare at the gathering audience. Hayden is holding a huge cake with “Happy 30th Birthday, Kristen!” written on it in blue, and the cake is alight with candles. (Kristen hopes not 30 of them, she and Zach just finished moving in, and she’s in no hurry to burn her brand new house down to the ground.)

Kristen blows out the candles from her perch on Zach’s lap, and lets Ryan take over cutting the cake and passing it out. She’s happy; she knows she’s lucky that she has such great friends, a job she loves, and what might be the perfect boyfriend. (Millions of fangirls can’t be wrong, and they’ve never even been kissed by him.)

The party goes for hours, and it’s nearly three AM when they wave goodbye to the last of their friends. Bear (Hayden had done her best to get Claire to stick; what had ended up sticking was half of the character’s silly nickname) is running happily around the house, messing with Kristen’s other dogs.

Zach pulls Kristen flush against him, her back to his front. She is so small that he can rest his chin on the top of her head, but only if he leans down a little. He wraps his arms around her, and she tips her face up to kiss his chin.

“Happy birthday,” he murmurs; he’s told her a hundred times, but he really wanted today to be special. 30 is a big deal; but every day with Kristen is a big deal, and he loves every second of it.

“I love you,” she says back, turning in his arms and standing on her toes to kiss him properly. She plants her hands on his shoulders and hitches herself up so she can wrap her legs around his waist.

“Did you have a good birthday?”

“Best birthday.” And it’s true. “Kisses, please.”

He locks the door and presses her back against it, “We have a house,” he says between little gentle kisses, and Kristen purrs contentedly.

She moves her hands from where she’s clutching around his neck to unbutton the dress shirt he’s wearing, exposing a V of his chest. Bending her head, she licks from his chest, up his neck, until she’s pulling his earlobe between her teeth, nipping gently.

“Why don’t you take me to bed and give me my birthday present?” she whispers, letting her tongue trace around the gentle curve of his ear.

“Birthday spankings?” he questions, teasing, as he carries her to their bedroom and deposits her rather ungracefully onto the soft bed.

“In your dreams, big guy,” she says, tugging on his shirt lapels to bring his mouth down to hers. He complies, straddling her little body, pinning her underneath him. He takes her hands, twining his fingers with hers, and kisses down her neck.

Kristen tugs her hands away, shoves his shirt down over his arms and then places both of his hands at the hem of her own shirt.

“Get to it,” she grins, raising her arms above her head.

He doesn’t need to be told twice, and in less than a minute he’s got her completely naked and pinned to the bed with an arm thrown over her waist while he curls his lips around her clit.

They’ve been together nearly two years, and he can still make her see sparks behind her eyelids. But still, it’s her birthday and she just wants him, even if she has to beg.

“Please, Zach please,” she says, tugging lightly at his hair, and like always, he understands. He slips into her and she sighs, a little gaspy-pant that ends with his name as she clutches at his shoulders.

She loves that he’s so much bigger than her, will never get tired of feeling like he can protect her and cover her and still let her boss him around.

He knows exactly what she wants - she loves that about their relationship. Since day one, really, he’s known better than anyone else, and every day they stay together, he just gets better and better at reading her. He likes to laugh at event pictures and point out her “fake smile” and teases her when she poses with random celebs like they’ve been friends for years.

She hates awards shows; she has to do something fun to get through them.

He’s just barely moving his hips, teasing her as he threads his fingers through her silky hair and kissing her, so softly she can barely feel them.

“Stop teasing,” she asks prettily, “it’s my birthday.”

“So it is,” he says, like he’s forgotten, and pretty soon she’s pinned to the bed, both arms over her head as he pounds into her. She’s wrapping her legs around his hips, pushing back with everything she’s got and she knows, just knows that she’s going to have the Best. Bruises. Ever.

And then she’s not thinking anymore because Zach’s kissing her neck again, leaving wet, sucking kisses all in a row and she’s coming so hard that her toes curl and her eyes clench shut.

Zach collapses on top of her, but manages to catch her hips and roll over so she’s on top, and therefore isn’t crushed to death.

“So…do you think you have everything you want?” he asks, and the question rings a little familiar but she can’t quite place it. She lifts her head from where she’s laying on his chest and kisses his chin.

“Pretty damn close,” she says, and gives him a brilliant smile.

“I think…there might be something yet,” he’s teasing now and she likes how happy he looks.

“What is it I want?” she questions, then kisses him instead of waiting for an answer.

The slim white gold band is cool as he slides it from the ring box he’d hidden under the pillow and onto her finger. Kristen realizes immediately what it is she really wants, and just barely manages to squeak out her ‘yes’ before smothering him with kisses.
