Earlier I mentioned being excited about roleplaying a halfling thief in our newest D&D adventure. I decided during the down time that I would write up a lil' history of his to share. Hope you enjoy. (I did not check grammar or spelling so I may edit it later, but I just wanted to get out there)

The Leaf Empire is, at present, exhibiting a significant decline in the power of the middle aristocracy (e.g. anything but royalty and the powerful dukedoms), whereas the middle class is surging in power and wealth as trade guilds and automagickinization gain strength daily. As a consequence, a lot of the aristocracy is crumbling in strength and a cultural divide is forming: some nobles think the best path is to marry their heirs into money, regardless of the titles and source of that money, while others abhor such a practice and tighten their vigilance ever stronger against dilution of their bloodline. The latter might explain why Ralth's father is a flaming hypocrite. :)
The town Ralth ended up in would have been Durkholme, the last free dwarven city (and not even so much that). It's the only other city of significant size besides Cahsport outside of the Empire's plateau, and the only one not directly Empire-controlled.
