I love this new year. It's only been a week, and I feel powerful, like a true Pendergrass. I love all that has happened to me, I love my family, I love my friends, and I love the stars.
Let's hop right in, shall we?
So I've been starting parkour back up. Melvin, Karissa, Pie, Frank, Daniel, Jordan, and Robin are all frequent attendees. I'm going to convince Christina one of these days, and anyone else I can get my hands on, maybe even Gibb and Brenda, lol. Melvin kongs funny, Pie does a barrel roll instead of a real roll, Frank has yet to show up yet, the twins got dedication, Karissa is becoming a boss (She's doing Speeds on day 5! holy crap!) and Robin's got a beard hat. I'm working my way up towards flips again, as well as improving my fluidity. It's fun being fluid.
It's not so bad here on campus now that friends are coming back, my second family so to speak. I'm in good company here. I really miss Mat though. I can't wait to here the long story he has to tell when he returns.
Tonight's event! Yeah Karissa learned to speed, I wore a pikachu hat the entire time, which warranted a lot of funny attention from passer's by (People would stop in their tracks, haha). Karissa showed me a way of stretching I've never done before. Gaining flexibility is a plus in my book.
I ate at Karissa's, Robin brought over some banana bread and explained that he had locked himself out of his place. He was going to use a rope to climb up to the balcony where the back door was unlocked. Well, Robin lives at a place where the second story is really a half a story taller than it should be, otherwise we could have (or I could have) just parkoured into it. So after the banana bread I volunteer to help and we head over to his place. There's this perfect hole in the wall where Robin can stand and attempt to sling his rope up to the balcony and around the pillar. Several attempts go by, until Robin finally gets the rope secure. My ear starts ringing for no reason, so I turn and rub it, noticing a silohuette 2 yards behind me. A police officer was hiding in the shadows, watching the whole thing. I did what any good citizen would do and waved with a friendly greeting. Robin noticed as well. "Hello sir." he said from halfway up the wall, is right arm wrapped in rope. He walked into the light, a tan man sporting a very impressive moustache. "I uh, live here, sir." Robin said. After some explanation and suspense, the police officer says. "Alright. Go ahead." I don't think he thought we could get up there, so he was just going to pick up the pieces when Robin fell.
Anyways, Robin tries climbing once with the rope. Unfortunately, the rope is for holding things in a truck bed, not for climbing. It's flat and slick, so he starts to slip. I held my breath as I watched him, struggling successfully to get his footing in a safe place again. A moment of awkward silence passed as we both realized the same thing. He could walk along the hole and hop up to the balcony, using the rope for support. And that he did. He encountered another problem though; stability. In order to get up, he had to stand up straight, and then hop up a bit to the edge above. Below him were stairs, and a metal hand rail. He asked me to reach up and keep him pressed up against the wall. I stood on top of the hand rail, planting one foot against the wall and pressing my hand up against his back. He reached once, inches away. "You've got this" I said from below. He glanced up, did it again, and got his fingers to the top. a few deep breaths later and he let go of the rope, bringing his other hand up. I hung there for a second, catching his breath. "Parkour, man." I said. Robin heard me and completely changed. He was no longer breathing heavily, or appeared to be making an effort to hold on. Robin tightened his grip, "Parkour" he repeated and pulled himself up and over. What an Adventure!!!
We had a good laugh about it after the cop verified he actually lived there and had left. What were we worried about anyways? We are jumping buddies for a reason.
The banana bread was delicious.
And I'm exhausted.
Life is good :)
