Ollie's Adventures in Roadie-dom
So there was this Pink Floyd cover band, House of Floyd, playing in Felton tonight. I have heard tell that these guys are as good as the real thing. Only problem was that it was a 21+ show. I emailed the band and explained the situation, and mentioned how bummed I was that I'd have to wait till the next time they're in Santa Cruz to get a chance to hear them. They emailed me back and said "Well, if you work for us, they have to let you see the show. Come by around 3 and we'll work something out."
So I show up at 3 on the dot and they bust my ass. I haven't worked that hard in months. But apparently they really started to like me, because they invited me to eat with them for the crew dinner. And they asked me to run the lights/lasers. Nothing fancy, just 5 switches to flick on or off, but they said 'We know you know the music, so just play with it and put on what feels right.' After the show everyone was telling me I did a great job, and I got a free poster and road crew shirt.
Oh, and it was as good as the real Floyd.
