So I am sitting in class wondering why I cannot pay attention to what is being said. Work was good... oh, yeah, I have actual WORK now!! As opposed to simply academic drudgery.
I am working at the Legal Assistance Foundation of Metropolitan Chicago Health Law Project as a student intern. I help people who need it. REALLY need it. People who are on Welfare, Medicare, Medicaid and such need help maintaining and applying and challenging for their rightful benefits under the law and policy of the state of Illinois and I help them GET it. It is surprisingly rewarding and fantastically annoying.
I hate dealing with bureaucracy, always have, but oddly enough I am very good at it. I sit on those drones like I am hatching bad eggs. I think word has already gotten around DHS in Illinois that I am a persistent and polite pain in the collective ass. Muah ha ha ha ha!!
I have almost caught up from the broken foot debacle... woops I didn't talk about that yet either. OK, I twisted out my ankle, which the doctor said looked like a minor sprain. They took x-rays and sent me home. I got a call back for a second set of x-rays and they then determined that I had actually stress fractured (hairline) the 3rd and 4th metatarsal bones of my foot. I have a stiff plastic booty in my boot and very happy drugs which rendered me slightly unconscious for a week and a half or so. Hmmm... sounds familiar. OH yeah! Something similar happened at the beginning of LAST semester... if this is going to happen every time I start a new project or phase in my life I need to get health insurance.
For all that I am frantically busy, and frantically tired and frantically behind, it feels so wonderful to actually do something resembling productive WORK. I miss that feeling of immediate accomplishment in the professional setting. I am a gratification junkie and this is a quick fix.
OK, tomorrow is dedicated to a SPRING CLEANING of the apartment and a tryout of my new couch cover after a significant amount of SLEEP.
TTFN loves!!
