the reason is bc they don't want to have fear/pain users out there without more education. it's a cop out. pain and fear guys don't get much of the education that they need anyway, and sometimes they get the education and use pain and fear anyway because it looks like it works faster for them and for clients, and they are reinforced by the process more than r+ work. r+ beh mod is hard, and tough to get good compliance on, and that deters people who are used to using brute force to get what they want.

i'm trying to work towards licensure of dog trainers/beh counselors with an ethical code, legal/gov't oversight, etc. with another trainer here.

i have seen the tdf pages, and i know a few of them personally, but like you say, they are not organized. the tdf folks should be pissed about the statement. hopefully they'll hear about it and be angry enough to do something about it.

i don't like the fact that they're unwilling to go farther and get the law involved and really go for consumer protection and protection of dogs from pain/fear as beh mod methods. they want to regulate dog training, but they are unwilling to really regulate anything that might cost them $, and that's dumb. if they had a solid ethical code and a board that had actual education and training as ethical beh mod counselors that wanted to do something for the profession that wasn't just there to stick some letters behind ppl's names, i'd be more interested. it's too easy to get a cpdt without enouhgh thorough education, and it's too easy to take the test and then go be as unethical as you want without getting caught.

not sure if that's all... i gotta go though... :-)
