"Aww, thank you raisedbymoogles! I wanted to go by real-life situations and I'm glad you liked it. I mean, who would trust the super heroes after all this? Well, maybe the Mayor... but the next part might deal with that and reveal all. Love, LJ."
I wanted to wait to reply until the author herself could be a part of it. Your comment made her grin from ear to ear :)
Oh, LJ - you've suppassed yourself. To move so naturally from a moment of towering triumph to the perfectly logical outcome of what came before, in a way that doesn't feel in any way forced or contrived like so many of the 'and they will never be the same again' moments that pepper comicbook history is a fantastic achievement. It *is* mature, in a way that a lot of superhero stories fail to be - and I would expect nothing else from someone raised on all the best stories out there.
"Thank you. A lot. Thank you for such amazing compliments - they make me feel like my stories are worthwhile. I quite like my new team and I hope that through the rest of my stories you'll see them evolve and change and develop, too. Love, LJ."
For my part, buddy, you hit the nail on the head. She's a truly amazing, unexpectedly mature storyteller and I love her refusal to shy away from the consequences of her character's actions. And personally, I'm really pumped about (a) having a team of New Avengers to play with and (b) more Ben Reilly!!!!!!!!!!!! Glee!!!!!!!!!!!!
After finishing the Ultra Revolution it really felt, to me, like we had travelled the road with the original heroes and that it was time to step out of the tangled mess they had made & into a new era with the young heroes. It seems like that was LJs plan and it worked well. So often in comics because of the popularity or demands of the corporation the outcomes of a massive event have minimal or short term consequences with the status qua returning in a handful of issues. It is heartbreaking but refreshing at the same time to have more realistic consequences come as a result of this gigantic battle and the ongoing deception of the cabal
( ... )
You've perfectly summarised LJ's mentality on this story, my friend. She's a big believer in consequence, and in actions having reactions, and what I like is how she merges that with the need to innovate and change things up so that the two concepts merge together beautifully and give birth to a new path forward.
