Is it possible for a seven-week-old girl to be petulant? I'm starting to think so.
Until someone tells us differently, SJ and I have no choice than to believe LJ is being... naughty. Her royal highness has decided that she does not like lying down - not in her bouncinette, nor in her cot... and prefers to be held at all times, thank you very much.
Of course, she falls asleep the moment she is held. With the occasional peering out of one eye to make sure she's still in someone's arms. A beautiful little smile, then it's back to sleep until the next status check.
While we're not busy, this isn't a problem. Heck, I had eight hours worth of Transformers DVDs to watch - and cuddling goes well with couch potato-dom. But when things had to be done... cooking, eating, writing... little miss would not take matters lying down.
Cue the somewhat surreal sight of SJ and I filling our new beanbag sofas at 9pm last night, a sleeping (no longer screaming) LJ locked onto my wife's front thanks to her Kapoochi sling.
Then, this morning, LJ decides it's time to eat at 7am. No problem, says I, and happily get up to her - eight hours of sleep has refreshed me. But not for long... just 70mL in, and her royal highness decides to hold the milk in her mouth and waggle her head from side-to-side, eyes pinched shut.
She wasn't choking, or uncomfortable. She was just being a... yes, that. I could almost hear the thoughts going through her mind... nyeah nyeah nyeah-nyeah nyeah, I'm not ea-ting, nyeah-nyeah!
Mutter mutter frassum rassum.
And so I did the only thing I could do - I wrapped her snugly in a cotton wrap, placed her back in her cot and ignored the screams of protest that chased me out the door. Five minutes later, she was asleep. Sure, there was the occasional scream every now and again but, for the most part, she slept calmly until 9.45am.
I'm happy to report her mood has improved, and she is now happily sucking down a full feed, with no interruptions or... antics.
It's just as well ya love 'em, or else you'd go mental.
