Le Morte Darthur
So catching up on the Arthurian Cycle. Malory is both wonderful for translating and keeping this around for years to come (where as his sources, in French, appear to have gotten largely lost?) and yet I hate it so, for all the best parts (fantasy, magic, etc.) he, I suspect a religious man (I really need to find out why he was in prison though) cut that to the quick, pressing down on the details. Of course being both compressed and at the same time overly wordy, is the style...but oh thank you mondern people for the redos with much love for magic!
Also, I hate Guinevere. And Lancelot. Not sure which I hate more, possibly my hate of Lancelot causes part of the hate for Gwen. If you're going to cheat...I really don't buy his great knight bit (a description over used....) but at least his son is supposed to be awesome. I haven't gotten there yet...
It's all so circular. Which is true of the source material and my feelings of annoyance towards these two lovers.
