Tomorrow Lent begins, and I must say as a Roman Catholic this happens to be my least favorite time of the Church calander, but it is also the most important time. This year the Church I attend gave us each little plack books that have 50 days worth of meditations. You start the Sunday before Ash Wed. and you do a 6 minute reading and meditation everyday up through and including Easter Sunday. I figured I'd post some of my reactions to the meditations online. Some because out of the 3 I've done so far 2 have been too personal to share with the internet at large and I figure if you can't let ppl read them why even bother typing them?
So the reading today was about the background of Luke's Passion of the Christ. The entire little black book is based on Luke because that is the Gospel we are using this Lent! The author made a point of mentioning that Luke is known for his portrayal of Jesus as Compassionate. This is the Jesus of compassion, who told the parable of the Good Samaratin and the Prodigal Son. This is the Jesus I remember learning about as a child. The Jesus that would sternly rebuke me when (for there was no "if" when it came to me and misbehaving) I misbehaved , but would never stop loving me. Jesus was, in my mind, a parent guiding his children and that is really still how I think of him. I honestly don't know where I would be other than lost if I did not have his guidance in my life. and bite me if you have a problem with the cliche :-P
