Parent: I am going to notify the superintendent that you're giving my son 0's for work he didn't turn in!

Me: ...Um...was that...I mean, was I supposed to take that as a threat...?

Parents. They are not right in the head.

She basically wants me to call her every time her son is absent and misses an assignment. Shouldn't she KNOW when he's absent? And how is this different from putting in a 0 she can see at home and then replacing it with a grade when he bothers to do the work? Strange, strange.

*palm to face* Oh Lord.

And the correct response to that is,"Thank You", on both your parts. The parent should be thanking you for the lesson that no homework done equals a zero.In case the parent doesn't mean it that way (more fool them), then it hopefully makes them realize what a fool they are being.

What else are you suppose to do if the student doesn't turn in work? Am assuming that he doesn't have an IEP that limits the amount of homework he's being given.

Nope, no IEP or 504 of any kind. To quote, "You clearly enjoy giving 0s for work that has not been turned in." This in an e-mail full of vitriol. So...I'm a bad teacher because I give 0s when work is NOT turned in. Now, she can check the grades at home through our grading system so, he gets a 0, she makes him do the work, he gets credit for it. But this is unacceptable because of my apparent...joy?...in giving him bad grades.

She should rest assured that I'm not in a rush to keep her or her offspring in my one-grade school an extra year!
