Your stuffed animal legion sounds exceptional, what are you even talking about. I could bring mine too, and our Figment plushes could team up to FIGHT CRIME!

I think you're right that Joey is nothing but the audience stand-in. I don't find him annoying or anything, but he's not what keeps me interested. I kinda wish they had done more with the "too old for stuffed animals" thing, too. There's a lot you could do with that, it could really enhance the book. Ah well, missed opportunity. King Bear ended up being one of my favorite characters, though, he's a pretty badass leader. You're right about the teddie bears costumes, he has a right hand named Orson who's in a cute vest, haha!

I actually hadn't thought about it, I was so caught up in the great character drawings that I didn't pay close attention to the backgrounds, but you're right, the backgrounds in this are very neglected. Even the Crystal Palace (I think that's the name, I don't have the book handy to check) is disappointingly empty. Excellent point!

I would recommend Stuff of Legend pretty heartily, the art is very striking and the story is a lot more bleak but very engrossing. Something I just learned too, the writer of Stuff of Legend is the same guy behind Intrepid EscapeGoat...now there's some pretty different books!
