DISNEY!

So! We went to Walt Disney World last week for the nth time, because I am perpetually a 10 year old, and I doubt I’ll ever actually “grow up" at this point. I’m also cool with that ( Read more... )

I'm going to say right now that these pictures and things made go all squee-fangirl! I was sitting here giggling and grinning at seeing things I saw not so long ago- and you know that parade you have pictures of? I think we saw part of a test run of it or something on our trip! I recognize that big gift-like-shaped float. And it wasn't on the schedule; it just sort of happened. So like I said, I wonder if they were testing it out or something? I knew you were going to love the new Star Tours- not that I ever saw the old one, mind you. But I loved it so much I went on it a second time. :) Funny thing is, both times our first planet was Hoth.... First time on, the second planet was Naboo (underwater with the Gunguns) and second time I believe it was Corusant (not sure if I spelled that right; either way, cloud city). And best of all, on the first time through, Mom came up as the Rebel spy. That just about made her trip. :) You couldn't see the construction work on the new castle, when we were there. So that got me all ( ... )

Haha! Disney geek-out should be shared by all, after all! :D

It wouldn't surprise me if they were testing them out as you thought. They look pretty general, so I bet they use them for a lot of big events, and if they hadn't used them in a while, they probably wanted to make sure all the mechanisms were still working before the halloween party. That makes good sense to me!

I'm jealous! I was hoping to go to Hoth in Star Tours, haha! Well, at least I have that to look forward to the next time. None of us ended up the rebel spy, but Jess still picked up the "I am the rebel spy" t-shirt because it's awesome. XD

Yeah, I am seriously excited for the new Fantasyland. It might be a lot more worth visiting now! And high five on the haunted mansion! God, I love that ride. I really hope Guillermo Del Toro is still planning to make a new Haunted Mansion movie, there's so much potential there. (Especially if you go with the French version, Phantom Manor, which actually has a full story.)

WHOO! Disney! XD

We made sure Mom got the Rebel Spy shirt, and it's now one of her favorite ones. :) She wore it on the way home on our last day, and it got so many compliments. Me, I had to get one with Yoda on it. :) Hee hee, I had to go on the Haunted Mansion twice, too. :) I'd heard rumors of a new movie, yes. I never saw the first one, but I've gathered that's no loss. Apparently the makers couldn't decide whether it should be silly or spooky, tried to do both, and got neither. :P But Del Toro is a director who seems well-versed in atmosphere, and I think he could really do something with the concept. To get the right vibe, atmosphere is what you need.

It really is. And Del Toro has shown repeatedly as well that he knows how to balance humor and horror without cheapening either, and I think that's exactly what a Haunted Mansion movie needs.

Awesome on the shirt. It was a brilliant move to make those, and just a great update to the ride in general. :D I ended up getting an awesome Halloween shirt...and I was lucky I found it. They were selling out of some of the Halloween stuff - in September! Sheesh, I think they underestimated the demand of these things. XD

Precisely. You can't make it all camp, or you cheapen the effect. But you can't make it true horror, or you'll lose some of the spirit of the ride. It's whimsical, even if it is a darker form of whimsy. That's a trickier mood to capture outside the ride itself. Unless you're Tim Burton, perhaps. But I think Del Toro could manage it, too, from what I've heard. Perhaps they'll bring in moer Halloween merchandise as needed. It's funny, they were starting some early implementation of it even when we were there, in August. There was a gift shop in Liberty Square that one day was pretty regular stuff, and a couple days later was solid Nightmare Before Christmas. They might not have realized how popular this all is!

If you haven't checked it out, you might give the Hellboy movies a try. They have that kind of mix of horror and humor that I think he'd use for Haunted Mansion, and I think they're underrated anyway. The other of his movies I've seen is Pan's Labrynth, which was excellent, but SOOOOO not what we're looking for here. XD

I've thought about taking a look at those. The previews for the second one caught my attention because it looked it was dealing with what could be the old-school Faerie realm, and well, I think you know that that's one of my interest triggers. But I haven't actually tried any of them, as yet.
